This time of year, when it comes to football, it's "out with the old and in with the new." All the talk turns to the new recruits and maybe that's how it should be.

Last year, only 5 of the 25 freshmen on the roster did not get red shirted. That is something to think about imo.

LaTroy Lewis (LB)
Kenny Bynum (LB)
Danny O'Brien (DL)
Tino Thomas (DB)

Drae Bowles (WR)
Jason Croom (WR)
Alden Hill (RB)
Nathan Peterman (QB)
Justin Meredith (TE)

Whether due to injury or a need to develop, we haven't seen what they can do yet. We return about 8 starters on D and 5 on O...All of these guys might be ready to help and I remember how excited we were to get these guys a year ago.

For the first time in a long time we have a chance to be strong up the middle on both sides of the ball. That is critical.

I'm looking forward to spring ball. GBO!

I agree. Day ricky bobby had his break out year as a sophmore. And a RS Fresh just won the H man. Not saying any of these guys will amaze, but it seems like kids are more able to contribute fast out of HS these days.

I wish Worley had the opportunity last year to go during the second half to hone his skills, but Sal made sure that didn't happen.

However, I am happy that Peterman was able to keep his redshirt so that if his talent proves to be of an upper caliber, he can provide some stability beside Worley.

I wonder if butch decides to start Worley will peterman get reps in games that are already decided in our favor. I would hope so just for the attrition factor.

Wow didn't realize that we only had 5 true freshmen play last year.

Who were they? Off the top of my head McNeil, Pig, and Q Watson were the only ones I know for sure I remember playing.

Edit: nevermind, Gray and Bonner were the other two.

Cody Blanc was the other...Watson and Bonner are gone so I didn't include them, but that would have made seven true freshmen, sorry 'bout that.

I like that a couple of these are LBs (even though they may be getting over injuries) and we have Vereen coming in also (is he an EE?).

Justin Meredith played at T.L. Hanna which is the high school in my town. I got to see him play most of his home games that i attended and this kid is good. He has great hands and is tuff as they come. I think he will be a good contributer.

yeah, looking for these guys to makes some noise.

...but I see Danny O'Brien (DL), Drae Bowles (WR), Nathan Peterman (QB) having the most impact (hopefully)...

I could see O'Brien providing much need depth on the DL and while he may not be a starter, he could get some playing time on Saturdays.

I have a good feeling about Bowles, only because it should be a wide open race for who'll start at the Wr positions, hopefully he learned a thing or two from Hunter, CP, and Z. Rogers during his RS.

Nathan Peterman is the dark horse candidate for the QB position, and while he may not ultimately start he could push the other QBs for reps and provide motivation for Worley. He may also represent our QB of the future if CBJ's style of offense is implemented to the fullest. So we should watch his maturation with great interest.

As for the other guys on the list, I'm not counting them out, but they at the very least provide depth, much needed depth.

People forget Alden Hill is an Ohio native and probably familiar with CBJ, though Cinci didn't offer. Lewis and Bynum have the benefit of two years in the conditioning program and Croom, would have played had he not gotten injured.

O'Brien was considered a jewel of the class, D-line rotation has a lot of potential this year.

I'm excited to see DT Danny O'Brien this year.. I remember hearing he came in extremely out of shape and was hampered by nagging injuries. But hoping this kid is red2GO in the spring
