Can someone please answer these questions?

1. What is the ROLE of a Recruiting Coordinator? What's their importance?

2. Can you have more than one?

3. Who might be the RC be for this staff?

To coordinate recruiting
Usually no.
Probably the new wr coach. It is believed that CBJ acts mainly as his own recruiting coordinater. Therefore that title on his staff will be mostly that, a title.

I would want only the HC to be in charge of coordinating
the recruiting. If we don't get the recruits that we are trying to get, the HC will be blamed anyway!

Unless he hires his previous WR coach, I'd say Elder will probably be RC here. Maybe Jay Graham could do it too. Just my 2¢.

Recruiting coordinator is not necessarily the best recruiter, but are most likely to be the most organized and a good planner. Being tech savvy would also help.

Is the process like this?

Everyone on staff scout for talent within their own areas of knowledge or/and relationships.

Then they report specifics on the talents they scout/like and then give reports to the RC.

The RC and HC look over which ones they like and determine which staff member would best to try to convince the player?

We normally spend well over 100k for recruiting services which would include scouting, player film etc. In 2010 Dooley spent 177k on these services which is puzzling since he never actually tried to contact any players.

The Recruiting Coordinator

Coordinates (Sort of redundant) with the HC, OC, and DC, to find and acquire the services of High School Football players that can (a) gain entry and remain eligible at the University, and (b) can operate very well in the system used by the HC, OC, and DC.

He must gauge the interest of a possible recruit. For example, for Tennessee to recruit a player whose ring tone is the Alabama fight song is probably a waste of time. This explains the volume of letters that good football players receive.

A good RC doesn't just read the recruiting sites, he seeks out players and is also a keen judge of talent. While individual players will be evaluated by the position coaches, the RC will acquire video and possibly have input. For an example see Rodney Gardner, Assistant Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, University of Georgia.

He will work closely with the Director of High School Football Relations to remain on good terms with all the High School Football coaches in the areas the University recruits.

He will try and convince as many players as possible to attend camps given by the University so that the staff can personally evaluate talent, sometimes video can be manipulated.

He must be organized and forward thinking. Even though the class of 2013 has not been signed, the class of 2014 is already on the drawing board.

Until the NCAA reduced the number of coaches on a staff from 11 to 10 the RC used to be a position with no designated coaching responsibility, thus you see such things as TE coach and RC.

A good RC is worth whatever he wants to be paid.

Did I miss anything?

Good post. Seems like Elder would be good for the job since he knows the coordinators and seems to be a pretty organized and tech savvy fellow.

He's already the TE and ST coach, not sure you would want to add a 3rd role to him. My guess is it something to help lure the new WR coach as well. You can sell them on being a WR coach and recruiting coordinator. You are more likely to get someone to leave a school in this case if that is who he is targeting.
