The UT orange that we know was basically chosen by the hippie generation.

here's a little history for you

i think this preceded hippies

Orange and White
The school colors of orange and white date to April 12, 1889, when Charles Moore, president of UT Knoxville's athletic association, chose the colors for the first field day. His inspiration came from the orange and white daisies that grew profusely on the Hill. Students endorsed the colors in 1892.

He was within 70-80 years...

Close enough.

what in the hell does not liking the color black in tennessee's jerseys have to do with sexual orientation?

Nothing at all. I do apologize for that.
I only wanted to say that black can be motivating for a team who has been playing poorly. What I care about is performance. And I think black jerseys have the potential to give an edge (and take away from the annoying emotionality that UT has fallen victim to over the past several years).

In my eyes, the black jerseys say "stop being sissies, and grow some freakin balls!"

In other words: "Give it everything you've got!!!"

Yeah...I'm not talking about the general color "orange." I'm talking about the tone of the color. It changed from a "rust" orange to a "bright" orange.

The students wanted it, and the students loved it. The players obviously wanted it, and they're playing great in it. Is there really anymore to say?

Those darned 19th century beatniks...

They are comparable to a modern art masterpiece.

.........ugly as sin and yet beautiful.

:)

I believe Kiffin is saying, "I'm gonna start my own tradition". Diggin' it.

Great stuff.

But I never want to see them ever again. Burn them right now, give them away to sick children, I don't care. I just don't want to see them again.

a new black thread jersey thread thats 11 pages long, how shocking..

what im curious is to where the guy who was always shooting down the black jersey rumors saying he had inside info on Mike Hamilton and there was no way he would ever allow such a thing. Yet unless my Jack wasn't distilled properly im pretty sure i just watched my Vols play in black..

yeah, i'm hoping these are put away and locked in the closet for awhile.....or forever. i'm glad it got everyone up and ready for the game, but they came off looking pretty terrible.

Not a big fan of the black jerseys. But they did warm ups in orange on orange. To see them on the voltron pumped right before the T opened up in the black tops got the crowd rowdy!!

I can't even fake it... I personally think they are pretty ugly. Maybe they will grow on me but at first glance, I don't care for them. I like the classic orange top in white pants. I don't know what to think about these.

+1

at least we had better success with our unis compared to UGA. they should give up all black looks with that school...

Good game for us but, I sure hope this is the last time I see these black jerseys. I thought all along that black tops may be cool to see but, I have seen them and now I know for sure we just stick with orange and white. We are TENNESSEE. We are The BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The change was cool for the occasion, but I agree with duckman.

To the closet they should go. IF they wear the black, they need to make some adjustments to the rest of the uni.

To all of you that dislike the black jersey...that was the loudest I have seen a crowd at the start of a game ever...the stadium wasn't even full...the team was the most energized I have seen them at the beginning of game in years...a new era of Volunteer Football in upon us...embrace it...this is definitely more effective 'hope and change' than those that have promised "hope and change"...pun intended.

GO VOLS!

i loved the black jerseys in my opinion i thought they looked great...idk how anybody couldn't like that everyone got fired up and was talkin about how they liked it
