The reason Nigel Warrior hasn’t lived up to expectations.

I didn't put any words into your mouth you idiot. You said that you were ok with kids getting brain damage because they know the risk. I guess you were good with what what happened to that kid from Tennessee State because he knew the risk when he signed up to play football. Also, because you're such a moron, why is common sense being a snowflake? I know you aren't very smart, but try to keep up

Again, here you go putting words in my mouth. Never did I say any of the above or remotely close. If you are gonna quote someone as saying something, show it. You can not!

There are 100's or no 1000's of kids and adults playing football who don't get brain damage, but a few do. Just like there are 1000's who drive cars and don't get in a wreck with possible brain damage but some do. Do they quit driving, no. Does a player who has a chance to make millions for their families not play, no. There are also 1000's of kids who never play contact sports because them and/or their families chose not to. Bottom line it's their choice. If it means sign a waiver or don't play, again it's their choice.

As far as the Tennessee State player goes, he has a name, "Christion Abercrombie" and NO one is "good" with what happened to him.
For you to make the remark above shows your mentality.
Did he and his family know the risk, absolutely. Did it stop him from playing the game he loves, no.
My Prayers are with him and his family!

You may now return to your bubble/safe space................................

This whole argument is a bit on the ridiculous side.. Just how 'safe' do you think you can make a sport in which the object is to dominate your opponent aggressively and violently?

These rules changes will never stop and the sport will eventually be ruined and unrecognizable to what many of us grew watching and playing. I see in the very near future people testifying in front of congress with passionate comparisons of football to the gladiators of ancient Rome.. They won't be asking for more rules, they will be asking for the sport to be banned altogether. I know that sounds dramatic but it's definitely within the realm of possibility.

I give football 25 years +/- a few before it is gone or at the very least is absolutely unrecognizable. So enjoy it while we still have something that resembles the sport we all know and love.

Peace brother... Go Vols...

That's already happened 100 + years ago and the sport was changed to be safe enough to suit the public. Was it unrecognizable when compared to the way it was.played before? Sure but it was also made better and into the product so many love today.

Those guys that played before? I'm sure they would think the sport today is very pansified..

Oh, so what’s his job? Why does Tennessee taxpayers give him 50k a year?

Not hating on Nigel. I’m proud of him and happy with his production but you must have never had a job if you don’t understand businesses and assests. UT athletics is a business,he’s an asset, and he is compensated very well relative to pay scale of his peer age group.
Strawman about semantics. You can hold that view all you want and shake your fist at the sky but you're in the minority, by a long shot. There's new information being gained all the time about player safety and patterns being recognized. To turn a blind eye to it, as the NFL did withholding case and effect research results, will guarantee the end of football. Change it or lose it.

But I'm sure you're up on the latest research because you're very flippant re: others lives so confidently.

You guys can go watch golf. Football players know what they sign up for and you enjoy it our you’d not be on the board. You just enjoying arguing so you make foolish baiting comments like you are some hero for the players. Maybe you actually should do a little research and check the CDC website. Plenty of occupations have hazards, football players risk vs reward isn’t anywhere near an epidemic These men play because they love the game. They love the physicality. Keep changing the game and the viewership goes down, then the revenue, it’s not that hard to understand.

I honestly believe that if warrior had played 10-12 years ago he would’ve been a dominant safety. The targeting rules have taken hard hitting safeties like him out of their element. If you watch him he is constantly in position to make game changing hits, but he pulls up to avoid being flagged for targeting. It’s sad to see rule changes in the name of safety that change the game for the worse.

My first inclination was to call you by a name Freak would bar me for life for doing so. But then I recall that Texas A&M game where he was ejected for targeting when in fact it wasn't any such thing. He was PISSED about it. Don't recall if he was penalized again afterwards but he was so pissed, I thought he might be conditioned to pattycake tackle from then on. So, you might be more right than I want you to be.

Please explain how the game never advanced a single safety concern and became more and more popular through the years. I understand where you’re going but if you look at the history, implementation of safety rules and viewership your take simply doesn’t hold water.

Not a single person on this post has suggested taking the hard hitting physicality out of the game. Of course that would affect the product we see.
Safety rules, helmets, cleats, even mouth guards have improved multiple times over the years and will continue to do so. If we can take out one part of the game, that most learn in Pee-wee leagues, tackle with your head up, would that not be a good thing?
It used to be called “spearing” and it was always a penalty.

Also, you guys that continue to say the players are good with this, maybe you should stop the supposition and see where these safety changes are coming from. Owners wouldn’t change one thing as long as their “assets” make them money. The NFL players union, at the request of players, is pushing most of this.

Some want to call others names, that’s fine, but there is no excuse for being ignorant in taking a position. Making points based on your feelings or what you think will always result in the reduction of a discussion into name calling and generalizations. Go grab some actual information. It really isn’t that hard to understand.

Not sure where you have been but simply google “nfl ratings down” or “super bowl viewers” and then run the play again

Um, you're the one whining about the sport changing; how about YOU go watch something else if it hurts your feeling so much that they're changing it.

Again, do one iota of research. When did the ratings begin to drop? There is some correlation with the beginning of Thursday night games and market over saturation. There seems to also be a correlation from the protests. There isn’t a shred of evidence that it is from the implementation of new safety rules. From the 60’s to well into the 2000’s the NFL was booming. All that time safety was being improved. That is what I was referencing.

Google: Why are NFL ratings down

Edit: I neglected to mention cord cutting.

Actually so far the ratings are trending back up. Probably hasn't hurt that the TNF games so far are much better this year.

It also would have done him good to have a mentor on the team ahead of him that he could have learned from.

You can still hit without getting a flag called...they let this play go without throwing a flag.
[VIDEO=]

I watched that play live, and said if that had been a Tennessee player he would’ve been flagged and tossed, then the next play state would’ve scored the winning td.

You make this statement as if Nigel is proficient in all other aspects that make a great safety. He is not in the least bit, he could be but he sure isn’t now. The rule doesn’t take away hitting in any way, it just makes it so the players have to be more vigilante in tackling the correct way. I wouldn’t categorize Nigel as a pure hard hitting safety either and he surely wouldn’t be any better 10-12 years ago.

Once again your argument doesn't work. The problem with football brain injuries, are most of them don't surface until later in life long after they are done playing. Sub-concussive brain injuries are devastating to a still growing brain, and that includes college kids. Just because you're from an era that doesn't understand science doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I know that's probably hard for someone uneducated like yourself to get, but its true. Science exists wether you like it or not.

Saw the Clay Matthews penalty replayed and discussed many times this week . For those who didn't it's about body weight. I have seen several of those calls this year in the NFL but the player who came down on JG had full intent to cause injury to JG this past Sat. As for safety's and Warrior, I can't say if that's the reason or not. May watch his HS film but I don't get the leading with the helmet B/S. You should be able to hit another player anywhere below his helmet and above his knees. I think Warrior is "soft" because he's had time to adapt his game. You appear to be making excuses whether it was your intent to or not.

Let’s put freaking tutu’s on everyone and handout lollipops! Good grief!

🤬🤬🤬

“It’s sad to see rule changes in the name of safety that change the game for the worse.”

mmmkay...

Am I reading this wrong or is the implication that our entertainment experience should be favored over player safety?

Maybe I just stayed up to late and I’m crabby this morning.
Sorry but they chose this game. Do you think laborers of any trade that destroy their body every day to support their families get any sympathy? I even hear people say they should have chose a different job. True? Maybe so. They make a lot of money to take the risk in the nfl. Imagine how nice their families have it. Safety is important but I don’t see anyone forcing them. We do what we love most of the time regardless of consequences. I wish them all the best. However, college kids don’t make any money, but what the life! What would you do to live the type of life you want? What punishment would you take to maximize the lives of your loved ones? Head injuries are sad. Wasted lives are even more so! I wish the best for everyone! Even the laborers who give it all they know.
