We're missing the point of what's wrong with our program.

Is there anyone here old enough to remember what they called the undefeated Miami Dolphins defense? It was called the "no-name" defense. Why? Because they didn't have any "really talented" players playing defense. And yet they won! They had something this team does not have (nor does it seem like the coaches are willing to instill in them).

Discipline!! And I mean at all levels.

They don't look like a team, they don't act like a team, they don't play like a team, they are not a team. They are just a bunch of individuals playing a team sport. There is a very big difference between those two statements. I bet you most of the players can quote you their individual stats, but have no idea (other than the fact the team lost) how the team performed!

Lack of discipline is what is killing this team. And until "we" start enforcing and demanding it (both from the team and the coaches), we're going to keep losing I don't care who coaches or what recruits we get. Miami was able to play against and defeat "better talented" players because they worked on knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses. They covered for each other. It didn't matter who got the credit. It wasn't about how to make me look better....it was how do I make my TEAM better.

BTW...wasn't Neyland a military guy? Think he didn't bring discipline into the equation of his teams? And look what he accomplished! My two cents.

Maybe we need to bring this back for motivation?

You just made my point. This is a great example of promoting the individual over the team. The individual got the credit for a great play....not the team.

Manny Fernandez & Bill Stanfill where All Pro AFL that year wouldn't say 'they had no talent. Dallas coach Landry gave them that name because Griese, Csonka & offense got all the credit.

Overall I thought we played with some passion last night. Week 1 was just lethargic and completely embarrassing. So which mindset do we see going forward.

This season is pretty much completely lost but hopefully we can see some kids compete with pride and lay some type of ground work to changing the losing culture that seems to infect parts of the program still.

Agree 100%, the team that played Saturday was miles from the slow plodding and uninspired team that played last week. I know there were big mistakes but overall I was proud of the effort. It was a painful loss, but for the majority of the team it was progress.

One thing that is very confusing right now is that the problem that we had in week 1, meaning the reason that we lost. It's not the same reason that we lost in week 2. We lost in week one because the players had no idea where they needed to line up or what their assignments were. That is basic junior high level football knowledge and one that the coaches must instill in their players before they're allowed to take the field in a game. We lost in week 2 because of execution issues that don't reflect the four and five-star talent that we have recruited and put on the field regardless of whether or not many of them are still young. We had more Raw Talent on the field than either Georgia State or Brigham Young University and some of them have had time to learn to play at the division one level. For years many people have blamed the donors and the administration of the university for meddling too much into the football program and have said that that is the cause for our failures on the field. But I don't believe those misalignments in the Georgia State game had anything to do with the donors or the administrators. That is all on the coaching and it is mind-boggling. What caused that? That's what I want to know.

Game one was arrogance. UT simply was not prepared and thought the game was in the bag. Game 2 was a series of missed opportunities and going for it and failing on 4th down in FG range twice. Take those 2 FGs and it's a different game.

NO DISCIPLINE....on or off the field.

I agree.

Neyland called them Men!

Now, some call them “kids”.

When you have kids playing against Men, someone might get “bullied” OH MY!

That’s exactly what happened last play of the game.
BYU BULLIED THEIR WAY TO THE ENDZONE!
SMDH!

Neyland is rolling over in his grave....,,,,,,

I agree that we certainly should have gone for the field goal on the second 4th and one that we missed with only four minutes to go. That is just an unbelievably bad in game coaching decision. If we make the field goal then it forces BYU to get the touchdown at the end of the game in order to beat us even though they were in the Red Zone with 5 Seconds. If you go for the field goal and miss it you haven't lost anything. Going for it on 4th Down enables you to extend the drive and hopefully run the clock out but if you miss it then all BYU has to do is run a two-minute drill and go down the field and tie the game and send us into overtime. It didn't play out that way exactly, but the end result was the same. I really don't think we need to pay someone for million dollars a year to make those unbelievably bad in-game decisions. Those kinds of decisions are the reason that I gave up on Coach Jones.

I agree that the quarterback play has been subpar for the first two weeks especially considering we're talking about a power 5 program in division 1 football. But, why does a fourth-year quarterback who is as highly recruited as Jarrett guarantano is throwing the ball out of bounds on 4th down when you're driving down the field to try and catch up and win a game? That's what he did last week against Georgia State. When I saw it it boggled my mind. You're already behind and you may not get another chance at a drive, so why don't you take the shot and throw a 50-50 ball instead of ending the play and giving the ball to the other team? That seems so basic and yet our quarterback totally failed that test.

I've tried to reason a thousand things as to why we're not winning. I'm afraid we just suck, and will for a while.

Exactly, we don't have good players. That is the problem. We have some talented freshmen, but they don't have the experience to be good players yet. Soloman was supposed to be our saving grace on the DL. What we got was Michigan's version of Drew Richmond. Peterson was supposed to be our answer to our weak LB's. That certainly didn't happen. Look at the QB's we have. They aren't exactly the "A" team. Our stud Offensive lineman has a medical condition and the rest stink. Why does anyone think we are starting freshmen? Our team isn't very good, for now at least.

Good idea. You should get to the complex early tomorrow so you’ll have all day to demand discipline from the players and coaches. Report back plz.
