o.k., so he's a good guy. does that make him a good football coach? in five years as a head coach, he's produced one winning season. that's reality folks. the doo-lovers are sure he's gonna be successful. when? and more to the point, how? considering dooley's record, a 7-5 record would be mind boggling. would that make the doo-lovers ecstatic? it wouldn't do much for me. in a half century of following the vols, i've got to admit that there have been far more mediocre seasons than great ones (i'm talking 8-4 vs. 11-1), but with dooley mediocrity would be a smashing success. if anyone seriously thinks dooley will ever compete for an SEC conference title, i'd like to be let in how its supposed to happen. these touchy-feely tapes don't do much for the scars of the last two seasons.

Nobody knows for sure. We'll know for sure in couple of years. Sorry you can't wait that long.

Dooley seems like a classy genuine human being,but as a football coach he sucks no one can argue with that.

Talent... talent... talent... talent... talent.

The measure of Dooley's tenure at UT will not be whether he lost to UK or presided over the worst season in recent memory. It will be whether he can use his strength of persuasion to convince championship caliber players to be a part of what he is building.

I don't know if he can coach. I don't think he had a fair shot this year considering the roster liabilities. However, Miles and Mack Brown serve as living proof that great recruiters who are mediocre coaches (or worse) can win consistently.

If Dooley cant do that then he ranks as an average coach and history shows that Tennessee as a whole has never been an average team. So why should we settle for an average coach? Why settle for mediocrity when Tennessee deserves so much more.

I support winners and if you're not winning i'm sorry but you have nothing more to offer this Tennessee school who is in the top 10 most winningest football programs of all time and you have to go. Nothing personal, I just don't accept average.

You might want to look at history a little more closely instead of just the "facts". Dooley's record at Tech doesn't look so great, but did you know Dooley took them to just their 2nd bowl in 18 years!!!! Not too shabby. Not to mention they were 3-10 before he took over. And has been chronicled, he stepped into a rather "unique" situation here. 2 years isn't enough.

Yes you can. There simply is NOT enough evidence to draw that conclusion. This season with this team with its manifest limitations DO NOT serve as definitive proof that he "sucks". If UT had the best coach in the country.... probably Saban... you are talking about a marginal difference in how this season would have gone had the same player losses occurred.

The argument is NOT that he's a great coach. The argument is that we do not have sufficient data to draw a final conclusion. In a year, we probably will. In two, we definitely will should he survive that long.

We just thought UT had injury issues this year. In his final year at LT, 20 of the original 22 starters missed games due to injury. Several iirc were season losses. It is also noteworthy that their last 5 losses that year were by a grand total of 22 points... including losses to Boise and LSU.

I know I live down here in Tech country. People down here liked Dooley. They hated to see him go. They thought he turned their program around from a perennial doormat to a competitor. Remember, this school plays alot of "money" games. Lsu, Nebraska, Ms St., etc. Since Dooley, they have been able to be competitive with those guys. But, no matter what the truth is or who points it out, the Anti-Dooley crowd will not listen until we start winning and then they'll quietly jump on the bandwagon.

Ok so he's able to make a terrible team a mediocre team. What makes you think he can make a mediocre team an undeniable force? (because he has no history or "facts" to warrant such belief)

Firederekdooley.com once those sites are created for a coach you know its over. Dooley will have buzzards flying over him going into next season.

He is not doing enough to make tennessee Football what it should Be list of players that could change this program around out of NorTh GEORGIA. Mark richt did smart by picking Devin bowman Watts Dantzler Up and the Dream team tennessee will never be wat there possiable to be without A dream Team of there OWN list of 2013 dream team should Be

Each one of these players can Turn this program around playing Both ways on the ball mostly defense after Kentucky they NEED these recruits and Dooley isn't even bothering to Look at them I love my Vols butt DD u need to expand these players out or were looking at a nother losing season this year maybe no wins next year at ALL get these Kids on ur TEAM before Kentucky Gets them and takes what the vols couldve haD I refuse to take another losing season were at the bottom of the second all the recruits mite not even want this program anymore butt I noe these are deff committed to your program don't mess this up this is the time to restart this team in 2013 if we lose in 2012 we will lose these recruits small town = bigg talent stallion and Bell are closey related we need more family on this team I love my vols

What? You didn't know? The man won us a national championship, brought us back to relevance, and brought in the number 1 recruiting class 2 years in a row. That's why we follow his so blindly. All hail Derek Dooley:bow2:

Neither does Petersen... Muschamp or a number of other guys who have been promoted as "saviors".

You are right. There is no proof that Dooley can get it done on the field. Maybe he can't. What he can and is doing... is bringing in talent that will give him or someone else the chance to win big.
