The QB Debate.... Post Bama (merged)

I completely disagree, Jeremy Pruitt wants to win and win now, he has plenty of QB depth with Shrout and The QB we have committed for the future, if KC was the best he would be starting, I would believe the same thing id JG was the back up QB. He is playing the best players, he isn't playing anyone because of fear of transfer or years of eligibility left. He will play the best regardless because he wants to win now, not just in the future! JMHO!

While I want to believe that Pruitt's main goal is to win now, he blatantly said to the nation he is looking forward to getting 25 more recruits in here to help compete with the big boys of the SEC.... Am I saying that Pruitt that doesn't care about this season and how many wins/losses he has? Of course not. But I'm also not naive enough to think Pruitt isn't looking forward to the next recruiting class and next year. I love Pruitt. Glad he is our coach. But he has a lot of house cleaning to do with this roster. The only way that happens is with time and recruiting 25 guys at a time.

Once again, you are equating margin of victory to competing with this team and roster. You are a loon if you think this team isn't competing/fighting even in the 4 double digit losses.

By your logic, we just rolled over and let them run a train on us in each loss. You obviously don't watch any of the games start to finish. This team is competing. They are fighting in the losses all 60 minutes. We haven't had that in 8 years.

You truly speak and sound like someone who watches Sunday recap show on the SEC Network that give 30 second highlights of each game.

Even Stevie Wonder could see our team fights and yes competes for all 60 minutes. You can have a bad team and still compete. Margin of victory and competitiveness are mutually exclusive.

Apparently we have different definitions of what competing means.

If competing simply means you're trying hard then maybe you have an argument. However if by competing one is using it in the normal manner of saying a team actually had a chance to win then you don't have a leg to stand on.

With regard to watching the entire game; I shouldn't even address this as it is a ridiculous assumption to make but yes i watch the games and then watch the recording while watching certain plays multiple times over and over. I don't break down every play of every game but I'm willing to bet I hit rewind on my remote more than the average fan. You know, guys like you.

What have you read. heard or seen to make you think that CJP isn't playing for the future and risking a loss or two this season? Other than typical coach speak I don't think I've seen anything that makes me think he wouldn't trade a win or two this season for a few next season.

He knows he has a honeymoon period of at least one season and with the vitriol spewed by many fans against the last staff. He likely realizes he can stretch that honemoon period a little longer than most coaches will typcially get. From that perspective I wouldn't be surprised that in a close competition a guy that can help next year vs a guy that can't will get the nod every time. Not everyone would play it that way and I'm not sure I would but i can definitely see the logic in that position.

If a SR and a SO are even you play the SO for that reason. One has more room to grow from experience and is coming back. The other more than likely is what he is and isnt coming back. That SO will be better as a JR than the guy he replaced as a SR. There was a premium set on SRs separating themselves on every team I ever played on. It wasnt a year to relax.

If that's Pruitts philosophy that makes him pretty similar to a lot of coaches across a lot of sports at a lot of different levels

I think back to the Colts pre-Manning...Jarrett Guarantano = Jeff George. Keller Chryst = Jim Harbaugh aka "Captain Comeback". Simple decision.

I hate the idea of a 2 QB system as a whole, but it wouldn’t be a terrible notion to consider given the differing skill sets and the experience that KC brings to the position. It might also give JG a chance to catch his breath, get some perspective and while not being sacked or nearly sacked he can regain his composure and make better decisions while not so frustrated. I would condemn this kind of rhetoric to start a season, but at this point I would like to keep JG healthy for next season and let KC stand tall and pick apart some defenses on the way to some W’s. Thoughts?

He and Helton did give Keller credit in the best way possible. With JG apparently Okay and standing next to CJP with his helmet on Keller played the rest of the game. From all accounts JG could have gone back in but Keller played becuse of his play.

It’s was obvious that Guarantano was on the sidelines to keep him from being injured, so we would have him for the last 5 games. Chryst won’t see the field again outside the Charlotte game unless Guarantano gets injured. Guarantano has the skills to be an elite college qb, Chryst dose not. Guarantano will be here for two more years, Chryst will not. Guarantano will be your qb for the rest of his career like it or not.

Hardly an average fan. And you are literally in the minority with your equating competitiveness and margin of victory. But hey, because you press rewind, you are clearly a guru. Why aren't you coaching the Vols, slick?

Him looking forward to getting more recruits in further proves my point. He will only play the best players, not anyone just because of a fear of transfer or getting upset...long term he will get the players he needs but for now he is playing the best players not trying to keep anyone here who isn't good enough to start!

Pruitt is a competitor and he said in an early press conference that he didn't come here to win 5-6 games that he came to win an win quickly, You are crazy if you think someone as confident and competitive as Pruitt is playing anyone out of fear that they would leave. He is playing the best players, he even said in a press conference that the starter this week may not be the starter next week or even be in the 2 deep depth chart by the end of the year. He wants to win and win now!

Ok.

Not sure what coach would say anything different regardless if it were true.

I'm also wondering what coach has stated in a press conference that 5 or 6 wins were the goal. My guess is the only one that has is the straw man.

Ok so here’s a serious question for this thread: Of the 13 other starting SEC QBs, who would you not prefer to our current starter?

The list to choose from: Two Tongan Volcanos, Lock, Ta’amu, Fromm, Bentley, Franks, Burrow, Shurmur, Mond, Stidham, Storey, Fitzgerald, Wilson. (I think that’s everyone)

Not asking this question about KC bc he's the backup, but if he becomes the starter then this same question applies.
