The Process

Butch is doing virtually everything right. On track for a second top 5 recruiting class in a row. But he has also changed the culture, and the attitude. When the wins DO start coming, and they will, it will be an avalanche.

They've has six this year, plus a few in prior years. I would think they've all had plenty of reps in practice too.

Yep, and that is why this life long 55+ yr Vol fan can look beyond a loss to FL and see progress when others can only see we lost by one point. I suppose I've been around long enough to realize that success is not a linear ride to the top. As a matter of fact, most would agree that anything in life you want to accomplish will require overcoming opinions of those who even though say they are on your side, want you to fail and are at the ready to celebrate your difficulties at every opportunity.

I wonder if they have had a lot of reps at the tackle spot? They do look like guards in the tackle position. But I am seeing some improvement in their technique.

Really, it's the whole offense, line and backs getting the protection scheme right, receivers and backs reading the pass rush/coverage scheme, coaches calling some draws, screens plays, etc. at opportune moments. The offensive line shouldn't be taking all heat.

I hate losing. I hate the term PROCESS. I'm sick and tired of hearing the word. Mostly I'm mad at the last two nimrods who apparently didn't understand THE PROCESS, despite being an assistant to before and presently to the KING OF THE PROCESS. Mike Hamilton CLEARLY didn't understand THE PROCESS, but he knew the importance of a brick façade...I wonder if that's where BRICK by BRICK comes from?

The PROCESS is a lot harder to take when guys are out robbing and beating people and embarrassing the crap out of us. It's a lot harder to take when even the assistant coaches bail. It's a lot harder to take when you know even if you make it to a bowl a bunch of players don't want to play it or will be academically ineligible to do so.

We've been through a PROCESS before. We've seen the red flags. At least this is not that.

We won our last game, we're 3-3 with six games left. If you want to moan and piss don't take out on our boys it's time to take it out on Ole Miss.

:p

With you on that. Mid-season is when you expect a struggling but talented offense to beginning clicking a little, and that's on the coaching... process notwithstanding.

The coaches have called several screens and draws. I've also seen more roll outs recently. I think Worley is to blame for several of those sacks. Early on when he felt pressure he would retreat backwards, not a good idea. Tackles try to push a pass rusher past the pocket depth. Worley has also held the ball way too long in several instances. I liked seeing him bail and run vs utc when the pass wasn't there a few times. It's a process, lol.

I don't care how many snaps they got in practice - you cant simulate playing against real competition in practice. Especially not teams who have really good DLs. This O-line will not be better until they have more experience.

I understand. My point is that it's mid-season and they have some experience under their belt that should be beginning to show soon... I hope.

Enthusiasm and being a new brand can get a process going and help it build momentum.

But you are right. At some point significant goals have to be met else the process will stagnate and eventually derail.

Last weeks outing gave some pause. Most expected some bad moments in the 2 conference games and OU which we got but you should expect to get well against Chatt and that was far from what happened. That makes the recent comments coming out this week even more understandable regarding confidence. Its easy to see how it wouldnt be there right now.

The next 2 weeks will be difficult to manage but after that this group should be able to show some marked progress against the rest of the schedule if its there. Time will tell.

"Some" is still not even close to the experience most SEC OLs have. Do I expect to see them improve week to week? Yes. But to expect to see them completely turn it around is reaching a little too far imo.

I'm trying to find rest in the idea that the Chatt game was a gimmie and the team knew it. I want to see them come out with the same kind of fire they had on the road in Athens.

I hope CBJ understands we are trying our best to be patient during this process. As fans, we have been thru the process longer than the coaches and it seems like we are always missing something.
Like always having cereal no milk, bread no lunch meat, beans no taters etc. Good defense/offense skill guys and no OL. 2 yrs ago had good offense no defense. And what has made it more difficult in the process....no bowl game in 3 yrs. Don't make it 4 for The Big Orange. Lost several drama packed games along the way that could have sent us bowling. The fans are starving for wins. Let's get after the Rebs jus like we did UGA. GO VOLS!

I don't know that these types actually want the Vols to fail or celebrate difficulties, as much they project it. I think they are simply to ignorant to understand that RIGHT NOW we are in the midst of a process. And success in such endeavors requires the team to disregard how low the lows may appear while refusing to be deceived into the false overconfidence that focusing on the highs can bring.

Had we changed a play or two and won at UGA and vs UF as we could have, many of these same types would be leading the charge for how our 15th ranked team should be favored to make the Playoff, how we are about to prove OM overrated and expose Bammer in the next two weeks. They will either grow up some day or remain emotionally unstable throughout life.

"Trusting the Process" is the polar opposite of the above. Although, some might say, "What if Butch's process is as stillborn as the last 2"? The fact is, we cannot change midstream. It is THE process that we'll have to follow. It's all we have.

Could be some of that.
I dont think you would be hearing much of anything about confidence and such things if the staff felt like that was the catalyst tho.

I guess well find out soon enough which one we are more like.

Game - Set - Match right there.

You missed the part about the missed opportunity with FL. That was the opportunity game that would have, should have mad it likely that my expectations would be exceeded. Right now, that is still very much doubt.

Preseason I circled Old Mess as an opportunity game too. I hope I'm as right about that as I was circling the FL game. I just hope the offense can put it away if they have the chance this time.

Butch can talk about process and use buzz words all he wants. If this team doesn't make it to a bowl this year he is going to take a hit to his coaching credibility. Great recruiter, no doubt but need to keep the momentum going with some post season play and much needed extra practice that comes with making it to a Bowl game.

True on all counts. Nov. is a spring board for next year. Hopefully we spring the right direction.

His big hurdle right now is to keep this team together through the next 2 games. That will determine the season. That line specifically looks like it's teetering on the edge and now he has less RB depth and Worley is banged up weekly. I also believe that is why his responses are a little more tense and a little more defensive.

Nearly all fans agree Butch's seat wouldn't even have the possibility to be "hot" for at least another year and in being fired that is true but in other ways it's getting warm. Pressure makes heat.

Can we get a new word for process? While, I buy into the idea I want a new word. This one is getting old.
