Well we can all sit here and throw blame all around the team and the staff for the loss but it doesn't really do much good. It's a lot harder on the players and the coaches who put in the endless hours and effort than it is us couch potatoes or stadium goers.

UCLA - Lost the game, shouldn't have! But it was a non-conference cross country trip. If you're gonna lose, lose early.

Staff - Can't find many positives here yet but give a few days for the pain to ease. However, it wouldn't be the first time PF rallied the troops if possible. Maybe the film will show the guys that the teams identity seems to be a hard hitting pound the rock offense and a tough blitz the crap out of you and press cover stingy D.

Crompton - Basically his first real start. Was pressured endlessly but took his hits and showed a lot of poise and heart. See him lying face first on the ground at the end as example of how much he wanted to win. He was blocking his tail off for AF on the 40 yd run out of the G-gun. Need to start rolling this kid out of the pocket if the O-line struggles to protect. TOUGH though. Give the kid a chance.

O-Line - Run Blocking seemed much improved. I think the side switching stuff may have caused a lot of the protection problems. They may consider switching back.

Backs - Foster and Hardesty look to be a great 1-2 punch. Foster showed some elusiveness and Hardesty showed great burst. These two guys are THE KEYS from this point on IMO. Need a '04 Riggs/Houston type season out of these two.

WR - Looked ok overall. Showed the ability to go downfield. Blocked good

DL- Stopped the run! Got a little pressure

Linebackers - If put in the right place and right play are going to be fine. Wilson and Meyers-White answered questions about their ability. As did Mckenzie

Safeties and Corners - Again if put in the right play will be outstanding. At least they didn't miss any of the INT's. Berry and Morley can lay the wood and that will pay off at some point.

ST- The punt block was a disaster but looked like a busted protection or something. Punt and kick returns looked great. GJ was close to taking a few to the house.
Cunningham seemed ok. Lincoln - Let's hope the kids got a short term memory.

The week off will help heal some wounds, give some time to identify and fix the problems and get us ready for league play. As an outside observer the schedule looks daunting and the outlook grimm. As a member of a team it's a chance for redemption. Work hard, fix the problems, and let's play some football.

Just my two cents - :peace2:

It's just a game!

I liked the hitting, especially when they tried to run the ball. We let them know there would be a price to pay with most tackles. Wrapped up well. Wasnt alot of missed ones. That was good stuff.

This may not be a positive, but what if UCLA ends up 10-2 w/ a top 20 defense, nationally? Will we all still be hating the Vols performance like we currently are? I agree that Crompton's bad passing was bad regardless of perspective, but the basic point is that we all expected UCLA to be bad. We didn't pay any attention to the fact that their D was nasty before the Vols got into town. It does suck that a 3rd string QB lit us up in the 2nd half, but we did go against Norm frickin Chow back where he belongs in college ball.

I didn't see too many positives, but I also won't overreact because it takes at least 5 weeks to see what's what in the grand scheme of things.

I say seeing the orange pants w/ the white jerseys again was a + for me

We should not evaluate our run defense based upon the performance against a patchwork offensive line with no real experience. The fact that we got "a little" pressure on the QB with this line is even more telling and certainly not a positive!

Last night showed me that we will have some intenseeee games with Bama and everyone else. We hit hard, and yeah we lost.. but we'll be okay i think.

Postives:

1. I stayed home rather than dropping a couple of grand to fly out to LA and see that disaster in person.
2. Craft was only good for 2 quarters instead of 4. Could have been a rout.
3. We're one game closer to an eventual replacement for Fulmer.

I concur that the lack of an outside pass rush hurt, but the DTs did do a good job regardless of who was run blocking. You can only grade em based on what they went against. It's still UCLA. They get some pretty good recruits. You don't wanna give em the credit for stopping the run? Fine. If the Gators, Tide, etc run all over us, then yer right. But we haven't played them yet. We played 1 team...and the D buried their running attack.

No one died. That's a positive. Kidding.

I hate we lost. Shouldn't have, but I think we will turn out ok. I think our coaches were a little to over conifdent in JC's ability. The game needs to come to him, we don't need to force him to pass. The running backs were good (besides the fumble).

I just hope we well have our stuff together by 9/20.

All true but I will still wait for SEC play to evaluate our D-line. They played well against and inexperienced, patchwork O-line nobody knows anything about. I will still wait to analyze their play in conference.

And by all accounts they should have destroyed that o-line but that didn't happen.

I guess another positive is that at least AD Hamilton have some b^lls by not scheduling a FCS team for it's ooc game unlike the other ADs around FBS

How is that a positive? I'd rather have been duped into thinking we had a decent team for another week by getting an easy win over a fcs team.

instead, we have 3 weeks to know full well that we are a bit of a farce before UF pounds that nail again.

We'll face plenty of equally competent coaching staffs, and they'll all have better teams than UCLA.

You know they have thread titles so if it's something you don't wanna read or take part in you just go look at something that interest you. I think I saw a few "Negavol" threads but I didn't read em cause I don't practive negativity.

BTW not necessarily pertaining to this post but your others in this thread!

Seems like there are going to be a lot of "TRUE FANS" postings. I bet you wouldnt have to hear that on a Gator board or Southern Cal board. This is just getting so disgusting, What will it take "TRUE VOL FANS" before you get angry 3 - 9, 2 -10 hell 0 - 12!!!
