The politics and the realities of the VA scandal

When soldiers come back from war they go home. And, because that's the way our Constitution was set-up-as a Republic (of states). Our founders knew that a large centralized behemoth was inefficient and prone to tyranny. The states would take the money and administer the VA programs in their states for their state's citizen veterans. And, if a veteran didn't like the way he was being treated in his state he then could move to another state. And, Congress could reward the most efficient states with the highest customer satisfaction with an even higher percentage of the block grants. Its' called free market competition.

P.S.-You act like the federal government can more efficiently administer the VA programs in 50 different states and DC more efficiently than the states who are local people who care about their local heroes who return from service. Snap out of your big government loving world view.

C'mon man! This would never work, there is no precedent for this...

well except for Obamacare, Welfare, Unemployment, Title 1 Education funding, Medicare, Medicaid, Federal Highway Funding, Federal Waterway Management and I'm sure about a hundred others I forgot about.

Unfortunately the FEDs can't not meddle and write about 5000 pages of regulations the states must follow. With the VA I would like to see almost a pure free-market with block grants and only one page of rules like you must spend this money on the vets. Of course all those programs you mention above are unconstitutional. The VA being the exception.

How do you take a benefit of national service and hand it to 50 states (and DC) to administer? I get the resentment over the size of the federal government but I question the solution.

I believe the States do it with the guard/reserve. I am not 100% sure though I was only in the REAL military. :salute: :whistling:

Yeah, when my Guard unit was activated for Desert Shield/Storm, those commutes to and from the Persian Gulf one weekend a month were a PITA.

It was really bad when we started hauling around M1s and Bradleys. Those bums in the armor and cav units lived like they were in the Air Force.

The President's ineptitude blossomed during this problem. It's almost like having a 4 year old in charge..

It's weird that Obama's response to this issue has been much slower than say the College professor issue, the Trayvon issue, the Sterling issue, etc. Someone should let him know not all Vet'sare white!

For being "young and hip", this admin sure struggles with technology

Heard the VA recently spent $500 million on office furniture too...sickening based on recent news.

Entire fed needs someone watching the cookie jar and holding people accountable.

The blank check mentality is bad for everyone.

Of course this is a lie. Pt mgmnt software, like any software, has system requirements clearly outlined. Software would not be purchased or upgraded if it were incompatible with the hardware. If it were 20 years old, with 20 year old hardware, it would still work to book appts just as it did 20 years ago. The incompatibility would be in current icd-10 codes, e/m codes, and treatment codes. It would also likely be incompatible with current standards for hippa, ehr, and electronic claims submissions.

true. i've never had any issues with the appointment system, just the getting one part.

this is merely an excuuse to shiift blame from people to machines and allow them to throw more money at the proble, the thing is, they need to throw money at hiring more qualified doctors, not more infrastructure.

Obama Combats Tough Qs on Gray Hair & Malia’s Prom Before He’s Surprised with Softball on VA Scandal

He can't even answer a straight forward question.... Thing is, at the time of the interview, the guy over the VA had resigned. I guess he hadn't had time to read the paper yet.

What a joke.

C'mon Ob, you're not being fair. This is Bush's fault. And Cheney...let's not forget about that evil guy. In fact, every republican since Lincoln shares in the blame. The computers were probably designed by republicans. The MDs? Yep. You guessed it...republicans.

Obama is doing all he can to improve the VA system by reading teleprompters. He's about the bestest, most perfectest president....no....human that's ever lived. In fact, the Benghazi debacle happened because he was absorbed in this VA stuff. Plus, at that same time he was rescuing hypnotized children from a forced mining facility called the Temple of Doom run by?...republicans. Also, when he bailed out GM he thought he was bailing out GI Medical. You know who gave him the bad info?...republicans. The billions that disappeared chasing green initiatives? Republicans told him it was for green berets. That's why his administration has targeted conservative groups via the IRS. He must destroy conservatives to avoid more tricks and distractions from veterans issues.

Please inform yourself in the future
Before you post more mindless drivel.

Of wow. Thank you so much. I was unaware of the attempts by the Republican Party to sour the country on this man.

Poor obama

I agree that Obama needs to ratchet up the pressure on the agency to do better. But I find the effort to make this entirely his responsibility disingenuous. Just a few days ago Boehner was making some reasonable comments about taking a sensible, hard look at the program, but not just fire the Secretary and feel like that solves it. Then, the Secretaryvresigns and Boehner shifts to this is all Obama's fault.

Blaming Obama is just a false representation of the facts. And instead of getting us closer to fixing it, it just creates another hurdle to a long term solution.
