The Playbook on Sirius XM: "Tennessee's brick wall is coming"

Who were the hosts on The Playbook today? I'm guessing Childers.
Chris Carlin and Braden Gall

I rarely listen in the afternoon but caught this today on the radio.

I'd actually much rather listen to Childers and Nuehisel than Carlin. Carlin has the least clue out of all of them.

Seriously.... This is also the 3rd straight year ATM has opened 5-0. We all know how that's worked or in the past. They have something to prove as well.

...and I'm sure Kyle Field is a spectacle and loud. But please stop acting like we've never seen anything like that before as if we didn't just play in front of 92,000 a few days ago.

Ain't that the damn truth.

I think we lose the next 2 games, but of the 2 our chances are better to beat Bama. Regardless, lots of football left to be played. I figured we'd go 9-3 this season, and that's pretty good considering how bad the program was.

The national media is dying for UT to lose for some reason
I think it goes further than that.....

We are a statistical anomaly.
2016 is a special year for the Vols.
Keep it going #120.

Plan A all the way to Tampa.

I guess I shouldn't even watch the game with all the "EXPERTS" calling for Vol Death. What a sight it would be to see if Tennessee plays 4 full solid quarters like the second halves of the VaTech, Florida, and Georgia games....that would really shut those @$$ Clowns up.

To hell with stats.....this team out grinds their opponents....which they didn't do against Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas, and Bama last year.....show me the out grinding the other team stats....Tennessee owns the #1 spot right there.

And just because Tennessee has come out flat several times this year and dug themselves a hole doesn't mean it will happen again. So....your point is....what?

My point is that because they've come out flat in a couple games this season, doesn't mean it will happen again either. My post was about college football in general, it wasn't a shot at Tennessee. In fact, it should probably be taken as a compliment! Re-read it and hopefully what I was saying makes sense.

I look for them to come out with a chip on their shoulder Saturday. First time all year they're dogs, albeit on the road, but this is the week where they prove that they belong in the conversation. Not that they haven't yet but a win this week would go a long way towards shutting some folks up. Again, it'll sound cliche but it doesn't matter who the coach is(unless it was Dooley) when the experts and whoever else doubt, Tennessee always seems to come out and play well. I look for and hope that's the mentality they take with them to College Station Saturday.

I like Neuheisel pretty well, but Childers bugs the hell out of me. I haven't listened as often recently because I get to work from and don't have a commute.

Said "You watch some teams who win miraculous fashion and say "maybe it's their year," and others "that brick wall is coming." The latter is the Tennessee Volunteers."

That Brick Wall Butch built brick by brick has been coming all year brother and this week its coming to College Station Texas to crush the life out of that little 'ol team from Texas called A&M! (Insert Rick Flair Whoop) GBO

What exactly was lucky about our win vs Georgia? Hurd's fumble right before going in for a sure touchdown? Michel fumbling on the goal line, only to have Eason come out of nowhere to recover it for a touchdown?

No, there was some fortunate things that happened which put us in a position to attempt a game winning td pass.......mistakes by Georgia's coaches and players. And those things are football things that happen all the time in football games.

No, I didn't see luck after we let Georgia score an improbable touchdown with 10 seconds left in the game after we had fought back to take a lead on the road after being down 17-0.....a 28-14 run on the road vs a top 25 team btw.

No, I saw an outstanding coaching decision with how we lined up for the kick return. I saw the best kick returner in the country make an excellent play to break a couple of tackles, get everything he could and then get out of bounds leaving the offense with time to attempt a game winning touchdown.

Finally, I didn't see luck on the final play. I saw an offensive line give their senior quarterback plenty of time and protection to execute a damn near perfect throw to an outstanding athlete who went up and executed a picture perfect catch in traffic to win the game. No luck involved there, just elite athletes executing flawlessly to make a game-winning play.

Tennessee will come out ready to play, I think we will be focused and ready right out of the gate. People writing us off this game and that's fine with me. I expect us to come and BALL OUT, for sure A@M is a very good team but they have weaknesses as well. It will take a very good game for us to win and I fully expect us to deliver. Our defense is going to have to play very good and somehow contain the aggies passing game while making sure their QB doesn't beat us with his feet. On offense we are going to have to play our all around best game for 4 quarters. It's time for us to put a full game together. Play hard, smart and focused on offense and defense and take the fight to them the entire game. We need Dobbs to do all things well this game, good reads and good passes and burn the aggie defense with his wheels when the opportunity is there. GBO!!!!!!!

Comments like this are natural for the "new team on the block". They will doubt you until you give them a perfect game. A game in which there is absolutely nothing to be question. A resounding @ss beating from start to finish.

Let that be the Vols motivation. Crush your enemies, don't simply beat them.

I aint worried. At some point the ride will end and everyone will be brought back down to reality. Embrace the now and enjoy being undefeated. It happened and for as long as I can remember and been a fan the bad luck, breaks, ect has always hit Tennessee hard.

We can beat aTm. We can beat Knight. To hell with what everyone else is saying.

Your damn right the brick wall is coming... We've been building it for four years... and we will park it in Kyle field and dare an old bastard to try and cross it! BRICK by BRICK! Go Vols!

The media have made a career out of asking if this is Tennessee's year, just so they can say no when we lose. There's about 5 sports analysts who dictate what the sports narrative for the year will be. All the rest are the "me too" crowd parroting what the others say. If Tennessee actually winning doesn't fit the narrative, they don't know what to do.

My response to the "experts" is see Neyland's Maxims, specifically #3 and #7.

3. If at first the game - or breaks - go against you, put on more steam.
7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

Team 120 has the heart to carry the day against anybody,

Admittedly it took a bit of luck to escape App St. I still say a combination of things contributed to the team overlooking and under performing in that game. If played 10 times TN wins that game by 2+ TDs nine of the ten.

VA Tech? Yeah their turnovers contributed to the final score but the out come would have been the same. We still shut them down after the first Q and moved the ball with relativel ease.

Ohio? We never trailed. Sure we let them hang around. Game was never really in doubt though.

FL? Not luck. Just complete second half domination. The only break we got when Calloway muffed the punt on the 3 we didn't even capitalize. The next turnover we got was 100% forced and we already had the lead.

UGA? Ok we needed a little bit of luck but it was luck we created with 1) a strip sack for TD and 2) The Hail Mary wasn't some crazy tipped ball that bounced off four guys then just happened to land in a TN receivers hands. Jennings just went up and plucked that ball out of the air. Considering it was our first real road game following one of the most emotional wins in the past 12 years I'd say coming out with a win is the mark of a good team.

Now we may lose on Saturday but won't be because out 'luck' ran out.
