not sure what you mean, relative to what i posted.

Think about it for a while and it should come to you. Got to realize that taking a chance on either a pass play or some high risk play to get a first down verses running the ball, clock rolling, FORCING Georgia to use the ONLY ally they have at this point in the game which is TIMEOUTS was the only smart play and was SURELY on the game plan chart. But I'm not debating it .,,just pointing it out. Either way Vols won!!!

If we're going to give a coach credit for punting and not being aggressive...Butch would definitely be the king!

Jeez. I said throwing isn't option 1. And that there are other high % plays we can run.

I know an incomplete pass stops the clock

Have you read any of my other posts on the topic? Or ru just trying to be smart azz?

i don't recall in what context the question was asked, but i heard a snip it from Butch on that kick off return set, he said it was something they've had in the package for 3 years, they practice it, but never had a reason to use it, so my understanding was that that return set up was for a specific situation, and it presented itself Saturday....
Smart also referenced the formation and said it wasn't something they were prepared for. He mentioned UT's superior special teams numerous times in his press conf

Hell Ya, Kristy! Without a good long snapper, several bad things can happen in a season. That is one thing UT has been fortunate enough to have for as long as I can remember. Lovingood was the number one or two Long Snapper in the nation, so yes he deserved a scholarship.

Someone else may have mentioned it, but he also won SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week for that performance.

I loved a couple of his lines to the press concerning the award: “Usually when you see a long snapper’s name in the media it’s not a good thing. I’m happy to step up here with a smile . . . To be recognized is something that doesn’t really ever happen for a long snapper. I’m just really appreciative.”

Im not sure why you don't see Dobbs on a roll out with a pass/run option. If it ain't there tuck it and move on to the next play.

This is my favorite option ... Chance for first down, same result if it's not there, with a very small risk of incomplete pass.

You have to take the kill shot when the opportunity presents... I always assume the other team will score of the ball touches their hands again.

I wanted fake punt on 4th down on our last punt. The whole stadium was amped that they got the ball back, they were not expecting it. You give up 40 yards if you miss, but the game is over if you make it.

Watching the replay of the final Georgia kickoff, Berry stepped out of bounds a few yards prior to contact along the sideline. I think this was another example of excellent special teams coaching.

If Berry had cut the play back in, he likely would have burned the last 4 seconds on the clock. The way he darted out of bounds, I feel certain he was coached to save the clock unless he had a clear path to the end zone.

Lol op. Ya it was genius to punt on fourth down. And it took a lot of guts for an aggressive play caller like Butch to punt the ball. Loololololol

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread about the yardage we give up rushing. We give up huge yardage after contact, because everyone is trying to strip/punch the ball out instead of wrapping up. Our guys get dragged for 5 -6 yards extra. Hit them and wrap up the legs. It's fundamental football !!!

Speaking of mistakes, Verne struck again trying to pronounce Jaylen Reeves-Mabin by saying Jaylen Reeves Maybiss. And he wasn't even in the game. It is time to retire.

Good morning, Volnation -

I would like to talk about the play call that I have not seen mentioned since the game. If it has please merge and I apologize if so. The play call...

When Jones punted with 3:00 minutes left to go. That call to punt was MASSSIVE looking at the grand scheme of things. If we didn't punt and did not get the 1st down by going for it on 4th down, UGA gets the ball at midfield. Instead we punt and pin them deep on the goal line. As we all know - we get a strip sack for a TD to take our first lead of the game. That TD on the strip sack ultimately got the 2 late dramatic TD going because Jones elected to punt and pin them deep. That play call to punt was the biggest decision in the game IMO.

How many on here would be screaming "Why didn't he go for it?" if Georgia had won the game?
