The plan for QB

If Heupels plan is to go after a one year rental QB and Ty becomes available then imo, he instantly becomes the best option for us. Now some will say Barnett or Soresby is better but show me what either one of those did in the SEC. Show me where either one of those guys were Heisman front runners.

If our 5* QB in the system for a year or our all everything 5* incoming freshman do not even get the benefit of the doubt next year then honestly-what are we even doing here?

Between GMac and Brandon that is $5 million in NIL each year.

You guys want EVERY QB that enters the portal.

Heupel has to make a decision of whether or not he is going to just keep grabbing plug and play transfers or try to develop a guy and stay on that path.

You can't do both. You end up just wasting a bunch of money on guys who will never end up playing a snap for UT as they realize they aren't gonna play and GTHO.

I liked Joey. I really did. But this was a wasted year. No meaningful snaps taken by anyone who will be on our roster next year

The wise move would have been to roll with GMac. Let him take his lumps a bit and see if we were gonna have anything to work with

You really think we would have won less than 8 games with our joke of a schedule no matter who you put under center

Now we have an atomic schedule next year and no QBS who have taken a meaningful snap in college

What a waste
Coaches get paid to win games now, more so now than ever. We as fans are impatient, myself included. A coach always playing for next year would be shown the door quick

We are better with a true running QB or atleast someone like Hooker.

Its amazing how many FR and SO are ready enough at places not named Tenn
Agree to a point...you have to factor in the other guys like Sellers and Lagway that played as FR and SO.

To me, those guys aren't break out super star type players. Also, add Arch Manning here...he hasn't looked like a real QB1 option until late this season.

Even if Heup thinks both G-Mac and Brandon are studs right now, we'll still have to get a portal QB. No way we go the season with 2 scholarship QBs on the roster.

But I agree -- don't think G-Mac is ready and Brandon probably isn't starting as a true Freshman. And given how well Heup developed Joey, we'll probably attract a lot of interest for top-tier transfers.
I wish the draft and portal windows lined up better.
Could you imagine the transfer QB we would land if Heupel were to put Joey A in the league this year?

I disagree. It depends on the QB. If you have a QB who knows how to read defenses and make good quick decisions then running is not needed. Also, Ty was on a one dimensional team this year and made it to the playoffs. We run a much better offensive system than Bama.

JA didn’t really run. And let’s be honest, if our defense would have been better, we could have won the SEC and made the playoffs.

You get a QB that can run and throw.
You build around him.
Then we build the defense.
Get a kicker.
Building the defense is first priority. Mainly because what we had last year ended up with more holes than swiss cheese. Yeah, I know conventional views have everyone thinking the QB is everything. But if you have a solid D, you can have a decent QB and running game and hit the end zone on 60-75% of your possessions. And still win if the defense steals the momentum.

We can’t afford to get one of the top 4-5 million dollar QBs. We need way too much help in other areas.
What’s our payroll budget? I mean I would rather have a top tier qb who has a big role in deciding the fate of 75 offensive plays per game than to get two defensive linemen who might total 50 tackles and ten tfls of some sort on the year combined. If you are confident in GMac and Brandon playing at top 4 or so level in the SEC, then sure… if not, you need to focus on acquiring outstanding qb play.

Agree, please no Ty Simpson!! Hooker I think would be great! Joey is a great guy and really balled out, but still didn’t keep the chains moving on a lot of drives. He needed to use his feet more, but a bit slow.

Ok I see you think the QB is the answer. Let’s take a look at the last two years. This season our defense was atrocious for the most part. We had one of, if not the best QB in the SEC. In 2024, we had bad QB play but a top 10 ranked defense nationally.

Did we make the playoffs this past season despite having much better QB play? Here is a better way to look at it. Let’s say we take the 2024 team with Nico and put this years defense on that team. Then let’s say we have this years team with Aguilar and we give him 2024s defense.

In the scenarios I listed, do we make the playoffs in 2024? Do we make the playoffs this past year?
