"We" didn't do that. This wasn't a game put on by Tennessee. The people who "did" it were Bristol Motor Speedway. You know the people who paid both teams 4 million to come play the game. This was their show.

I think this explains it.

Remember the hosts of this event are NASCAR race promoters. After each event they have fireworks, confetti, trophies, etc... I think it's Dover that gives away a huge lobster in addition? They cook the lobster, freeze it and ship it to the winning shop. Another (was it Richmond this weekend) gives away a grandfather clock. Not sure on the venues for each of these examples but the swag is real.

Swag to the winning team after each race is part of the sport of NASCAR. They are simply expressing their appreciation in the means they are accustomed to. That... and 4 million dollars...

Really. Guess what, both teams got rings as well.

I think it's fair to give both teams a momento of a record stetting event such as a ring. A trophy on par with one from the Chick-Fil-A kick off and others like it is worth it too.

The post game celebration with huge fireworks show and confetti pouring down like it was the Super Bowl may have been a bit much but whatever.

Never again. I actually have nightmares of that moment.

Sleep well my little friend...

I was trying to bite my tongue but I'm with ya. The trophy/ring/confetti thing seems ridiculous for a week 2 game. It's not the same as the beer barrel and all of the other rivalry traditions. I'm actually a little bit embarrassed that we did that after beating non-ranked Va Tech.

After that crap, anyone saying rushing the field after beating Florida (who has beaten us 11 years in a row) is "silly" and that we should "act like we've been there before" can kiss my @$$. If you girls can dance around in confetti after beating unranked Va Tech, you'll find me swinging from the goal post on September 24th.

I hope you get to bring it down

So let's put some perspective on this. Put yourself in the player's shoes. After all the media buildup, all the hype, everything you worked for to be in that moment, isn't worth more than just a slap on the back from the ole ball coach? Do they not hand out rivalry trophies after rivalry games? What's the difference? I, for one, hope they use this to pump each other up and use it as momentum to beat the 4 team meat grinder we enter 2 weeks from now.
