"We" didn't do that. This wasn't a game put on by Tennessee. The people who "did" it were Bristol Motor Speedway. You know the people who paid both teams 4 million to come play the game. This was their show.
I think this explains it.
Remember the hosts of this event are NASCAR race promoters. After each event they have fireworks, confetti, trophies, etc... I think it's Dover that gives away a huge lobster in addition? They cook the lobster, freeze it and ship it to the winning shop. Another (was it Richmond this weekend) gives away a grandfather clock. Not sure on the venues for each of these examples but the swag is real.
Swag to the winning team after each race is part of the sport of NASCAR. They are simply expressing their appreciation in the means they are accustomed to. That... and 4 million dollars...
