The PHOTOGRAPHY Thread

A few from my annual fall vacation ...tucked away in the deep woods of Northern Maine. Rustic, difficult to get to, but heaven when you get there.

Came on here thinking it was the pornography thread. Just re-read title.

Boy what a let down.

I love those HDR shots NEVOLFAN

Pantone....thanks for the comments. The images posed here are single shots, processed PSE with Topaz plug-in adjustments. I really like some of the software developed that allows to add pop to some of the shots.

I do play with HDR techniques...generally 5images that I stack and process in HDR software.

I see your work...looks very good, so I think you enjoy photography as well.

I mistook the kayak photo for an HDR edit. Still learning a lot about photography. Just recently picked up the hobby earlier this year. I haven't had the nerve to buy adobe photoshop just yet.. Ive downloaded the trials but am a little apprehensive paying that much when I'm not really a "must have" situation with it. I'll stick with picasa until I outgrow it's functionality.

question on camera lenses...

Looking to pull the trigger on a Nikon d90 body nest week, and instead of getting the kit lenses. Was going to get the Nikon Body only, and go with the Tamron 28-75 2.8, and the Tamron 70-200 2.8 lenses..

Anyone have any experiences with thses lenses, I'll primarily taking pictures of youth football, soccer, and gymnastics...

Thanks for the input

I always say go with the most expensive glass you can afford, so i'd suggest either the gold ring nikkor lenses or zeiss lenses.

any reccomendations, I'd like to have 2.8 and auto focus, not sure if VR is as important since the D9 body has the VR capability

I have several Nikkors and love them, but as you indicated, they are pricey.

My opinion, both Tameron, Tokina would be better vs a kit Nikkor lens and in a good price point.

But, Sigma offers good alternatives to Nikkor lens at 50% the price. I have a Simga f1.2 85 mm lens that is just awesome and competes in testing favorably to Nikkor version.

The way I went about building up my lens portfolio was to start with kit lens and a cheaper Tokina. Then, each year I added one Nikkor. That way it is painless (mostly).

As suggested in a previous post...a good body needs high quality glass.

As well...if shooting sports you would need a mimimum 200mm lens (effective ~350mm on DX sensor). That would be good for soccer and indoor sports (with good lighting). I shoot soccer with a Sigma 50-500mm and get great images.

I suggest you check out the Sigma lineup (website is great)...affordable and have higher IQ vs Tameron or Tokina.

My opinion only....

If you really want to help, buy something a particular department will find useful and donate it.... say like a Nikon D4 & a 300mm lens for the UTAD photo department.:)

Nice taste my friend. But if we're gonna max out what the OP is looking at donating go for the 400/2.8 or go big with the 600/4.

Or if u want to stick to ur original request u can max out the OP by adding the D800 with the 70-200/2.8 VRII to ur hip.

Now that'll make ur bag the envy of all around...

I can appreciate this. Shot with a D4 the other day. Pretty awesome.

Add a doubler to that 400 and it's an 800 5.6!!!

HA! Yeah if you want to catch a pic of the cheerleaders wedgie from the opposite sideline. :whistling: HA! Personally unless I were on some kind of Adventure Photo Trip I would just throw the 400 on a D7000 or D300s and take advantage of the crop factor to add distance and keep the f-stop as low as possible.

I agree how that D4 is sick, and the D800 too. The megapixel war can end though, as long as the ISO is getting better than it's worth it. Crazy how both Nikon and Canon dropped all that great equipment on the market in the same week. It was like Xmas for every local rich man, and top photographer in the city at my local go to shop. It was their best week since they opened in the early 80s. The recession doesn't hit this industry as long as they keep bringing out new technology.

Just glad to see a few Nikon guys on the board...

(sorry for taking it off topic to all the others)
