The perfect storm?

That's a lot to expect out of a couple of true 18 year old freshmen playing in the line in the SEC, I don't care if they are 6 stars! Lineman need a couple of years to marinate. If Kiffin hadn't ran off like 5 O lineman in his first year, Dooley could have redshirted his incoming OLine class and they would have all been 5th year Srs this year except Tiny. How would Hurd have looked behind that?

This. This. This. Says it all about why we are struggling as an offense right now!

Doesn't matter if it was DD or LK, we got destroyed by a coach/coaches before our current coach! Can we get a solid o-line before we trash CBJ and the offense?

Hang your hat on that if you want. Pinkel is a great coach.

I agree but whoever he hires as DC will very well will do things differently. Play calls, signals, hell maybe even scheme. Bottom line is it's a distraction. I have already stated we may not capitolize but even a former Gator is conceding that things are lining up very well for the Vols.

I've often wondered what even a mediocre but stable coaching situation at UT could have managed in all the East turmoil and it sure looks like we will get that and more next year.

Please see mid 90' s to early 2000' s for that answer.

Florida is an automatic loss. Sorry, but it's true. We could run the table in the SEC but we will still find a way to lose to the Gators.

Can someone cue up the scene from Tombstone where Wyatt tells Ike that he heard him the first time.

We heard you the first time (and the multiple other times). You don't have to give us your thoughts on UT beating UF again.

Chubb is every bit as capable as Gurley. That's a wash at best.

I really don't disagree but losing Gurley as depth, if nothing more, doesn't hurt. At some point for UT to br relevant we still have to play well against good teams. I've never said these teams won't still be good. We are mearly trending upward while many opponents have change or turmoil or both.

What a jerk off comment this is...

Hard to not see a big orange sun popping through the clouds hanging over many of our rivals.

UF - new coach, staff still unknown & currently ranked 88th on rivals heading into dead period

USC - aside from Butch already being 2-0 there is uncertainty with Spurrier's tenure & they did not land Muschamp as DC/HCIW and have since had several decommitments.

Missouri - lost their DC of nearly 2 decades to a lower paying HC position. Defense as we all know is their bread and butter.

KY - new offensive coordinator

UGA - now draws Auburn with a Muschamp defense annually and Richt always gonna Richt. Plus Gurley is gone.

Vandy - Mason is the equivalent of yellow cake uranium.

The door is absolutely wide open. Jones appears to be assembling the kind of roster that can take over.

I get targeted for being "negative" for posting about things that could de-rail UT. But they are very close if a few issues get resolved.

I believe the one biggest missing piece of the puzzle is LT.

We now have a franchise QB, RB, a shutdown corner and what will arguably be the greatest dline in college football. Given the adversities our east opponents will be contending with we should capitolize big.

what will arguably be the greatest dline in college football......this is much too strong a statement when the some of the players you are counting on haven't ever played a down of FBS football......yes on paper the Dline should be good, but the greatest? Not so fast!

Franchise QB? Greatest D-Line in college football?

HAHAHAHA...

Good thing you haven't set the expectations too high while wearing your orange colored glasses. You'll be the first to burn a couch in the street when they win 8 or so games.

Nope :ermm:

Gary Pinkel has recruiting classes ranked 30th-40th in the nation, year after year, but still manages to have multiple seasons with 10-12 wins, and wins divisional titles in two different conferences. Pretty damn good coaching.

Hang your hat on that if you want. Pinkel is a great coach.

Yep.

Missouri 2012, 5-7 (2-6)
Missouri 2013, 11-2 (7-1) SEC East Champs

Auburn 2011, 7-5 (4-4)
Auburn 2012, 3-9 (0-8)

Auburn 2013, 12-1 (7-1) SEC West Champs, SEC Champs

2013 Blew quite a few minds.

Tennessee 2014, 6-6 (3-5)
Tennessee 2015, Crystal Ball says: SEC East Champs

Let's blow a few minds in 2015.

If we can keep Dobbs healthy and or determine a capable backup we could do big things.

Until Dobbs shows he can throw a long ball and hit a target consistently I'm on the "Dobbs is not the answer" train. I think he'll get there.

Franchise is a tag you apply to a guy you build your team around. Doesn't always mean you win with them. Romo is a good example. They are building the offense around Dobbs. As far as the Dline goes their ceiling is through the roof especially as the year progresses and the freshman get worked in.
