need to realize that the only thing that kept UT from top 10 class was Kiffin's decision to tell Boyd, Petty and DT that they didn't fit. We would have been well into the top 10 and possibly landed another WR or two if we kept Boyd alone.

Kiffin made smart, calculated moves to leave room to load up on next year's strong class. We need to have schollys
available to sign bunch of UT kids to lock down the state and still be able to go after top national recruits. The QB's we are looking at for next year are significantly better than any QB we could have gotten in on this year.

Please, please believe me. I have nothing in against Kiffin. He was dealt a tough hand and played it aggressively. I absolutely respect his attitude that you don't give scholarships to guys who don't meet your standards even if you have some left over. Other than as they reflect talent levels... I don't care about the recruiting rankings.

The thing that disappoints me is that he did no better than Fulmer has been doing at filling UT's two biggest needs. DT and OL were the biggest needs for 3 straight years now and have not been addressed adequately. If he had kept Hollins it probably would have hurt UT's ranking since he was a lowly 3*... but I wouldn't have cared.

I am concerned that this could result in more losses and perhaps losing seasons and end up unfairly costing CLK his job

I agree that the OL and DL are areas that need to be addressed but most of them were securely locked up before Kiffin got the job. Hollins hurts but it doesn't sound like he would get into UT. I really can't understand what Hebert was thinking. Keep in mind that Walls will play DT. We can always bring in JUCO's next year and re-recruit any prep school bound kids from this year's class.

Yep, didn't cover needs and still out-recruited by 6 other SEC teams. UT IS ON THE RISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I really wasn't aiming this at you. You have legitimate concerns and I usually agree with most of your posts. This is more aimed at the people proclaiming that this class was a bust when it very obviously was not.

Read that Walls wants to lose down enough to play OLB. I think he could be an incredible DE or even DT though.

I don't understand Herbert, Hollins, but especially Phillips.

Note to Coach Kiffin: Telling a recruit at a priority position to go have fun on recruiting visits in the southeast is like telling your fiancee to have fun dating porn stars. They'll get used then have no use for you.

Didn't have much time and the staffs we were behind have been actively recruiting in the SEC for a couple of years at least. We finalized our staff 3 weeks before NSD. What did you realistically expect? Would any other staff in the SEC have finished better this year if they had gotten the job at UT? I highly doubt it and keep in mind that we would have been in the top 10 without telling some players they didn't fit.

I don't think he was out-recruited by six other SEC teams. He was certainly out-recruited by LSU and Alabama, but I don't know that UGA or FL have better classes (it is probably a close call). The other SEC schools that are "ranked" higher than us really just loaded up on lower quality quantity, which UT refused to do. I would not trade classes with Ole Miss, SC, Auburn, Miss. State, or Ark.

That probably wasn't a great idea this year but shouldn't be an issue next year.

Ole Miss has a good class that compliments what they already have very nicely.

Ole Miss has a good class, but it is not better than ours. I would not trade ours for theirs, regardless of total ranking.

They got more players but I feel that we got more next-level impact players. I also think our LB class is drastically underrated. Askew is a stud and NMT, King and Nelson are the type of blue-collar, hard workers that thrive at LB. All have good speed, too. Williams is a severely underrated RB too.

I agree. I think we just set ourselves up for the opportunity to have our own class of 30 signees next year, and they won't be a lot of 3 stars in it (other than sleepers or underrated).
