1. That's a disgraceful loss. There's no other way to describe it.
2. Scotty Hopson tried to save the day. He just waited too late.
3. Tobias Harris has to be more assertive. He was a nonentity in the second half.
4. Jeronne Maymon was active and productive in the first half. He disappeared with the rest of the post players in the second half.
5. I really have a problem with the last play. Three seconds is enough time to run something far better than a pass and tossback for a 27 footer.
6. Kudos to Alan Major. As I mentioned in The Trap today, doing the right thing and jettisoning bad guys from your program always pays off.
7. It's a good thing USC is next. That should help this group get back to the focus they exhibited early.
8. This loss will look even worse as the year progresses. Charlotte is going to get drubbed in A-10 play.
9. Kansas-USC and Kansas State-Florida will be really interesting to watch tomorrow. The debuts of Josh Selby and Jio Fontan, as well as the Gators trying to regain some lost luster, will make for good viewing.
10. CBS College Sports needs to make sure Molly Qerim is an integral part of every broadcast. She's the only thing about their operation that isn't low rent.

I was expecting something angrier/more pissed off, pretty surprised.

Thoughts about the refs tonight? This isn't a "we got screwed" post, just a general question because I don't have CBS College Sports so I don't know how the calls looked like on TV.

Is there any one player you could pin the loss on or is this team-wide?

No one even attempted to look like they cared about the outcome of this game. Tatum had to be coaxed by Pearl just to talk to the ref about a hand check.

Allowing Hopson to get the best shot he could would have given us a much better chance than calling a timeout to draw that one up.

That's an understatement. That was embarassing and the players and coaches should be ashamed tonight. That was an awful team we just lost to. We should easily win that game by 15!

Agreed with all of the above, as usual, although I'm a little worried about the prospects of getting focus back against Southern Cal.

How much did Maymon play in the second half? Did he disappear because he wasn't playing well or because he wasn't on the court? Obviously, he wasn't noticeable.

Harris in the 2nd? Hopson in the first? The last play? Freaking free throw shooting? 2/7 with Goins missing the front end of a 1 and 1?

I remember come selection time last year that a lot was made of an ugly December loss (by 20 @Southern Cal) dropping our seeding more than we felt was appropriate. I have a feeling that this ugly December loss will do the same thing, whether or not we've turned back into a good team.

For the most part, it seemed like the refs let the players play and were consistent. There were few free throws.

referring to number 5. i thought bruce would play through the time out. not call one. looked like scotty has some momentum when he called the time out.

Did anyone else think that last foul on Goins was pretty wtf? They didn't replay it, but I didn't even think he touched the guy. I thought they called a kicked ball, and they'd called a trip.

I don't believe in calling timeout in that situation. I think you're much more likely to score playing it out than going against a set defense.

I watched the game on tv, I didn't think the refs really had much of an impact on the outcome.

As for who's to blame...well IMO, Scotty and Tobias need to be more aggressive. The last play, if that was the desired shot, seems a little crazy. In other words, plenty of blame to go around.

Anyone have any comments/thoughts about the rotation?

It looked like the officials gave the benefit of the doubt to the team playing the hardest. I've got no issue with that.

Box score says none of our starters played more than 30 minutes, and Tobias Harris, who was our best player, played only 24. That's a little confusing, although he was being backed up by our best sub (Maymon), who played the other 16.

I may be reading into this too much, but I think the last timeout may show how much confidence Pearl has in Hopson. That, and the fact the last play went to Tatum. All game Hopson tried to take control but in the process was hurting the team. He made a couple of good plays down the stretch, but some questionable ones also.

It was a teamwide suckfest.

Entirely too large of a rotation. I am so dam* tired of us playing 12 people. It is impossible to get any fluidity on offense and just when the guys get warmed up they get yanked. Pearl never needs to play inside the last 5 minutes and mcbee is killing us on D. Harris and Goins need to be playing 30 mins a game.
