The Pack is Packing a Former Vol

Dormady is another guy who was screwed pretty hard by Jones.

Is it possible JG had something on the school (money?) that made it impossible for any of his coaches to bench. Jones benched Dormady when JG arrived and through all of his years he was actually never benched, even after the debacle at Ala.
I-Said it before and will repeat: JG was the only college QB I know that got 2 HCs fired.

I don't know. I'd rather believe that he was just so good in practice that those guys could not bring themselves to believe that he would play poorly again in the next game.

Pruitt for certain did not believe in "gamers". Apparently he didn't believe in the opposite of a gamer either. But it is simple reality that some guys have another gear in games while others just cannot translate practice to games.

This isn’t actually what happened. Jones started Dormady over JG in 2017, then eventually put JG in when QD hurt his shoulder.

It was Pruitt that was hell bent on JG being the starter. In one of his early press conferences he said “We don’t have starters on this team yet, except at QB. We know who the starting QB is.” Poor Keller Cryst never even got a fair shot at the job.

And still has one more year of eligibility….

I just think Jones was tied to JG due to previous history with the father. Only reason I can use to justify not showing any interest in Lawrence, Fields or Howell.

It’s a confusing follow. You have Swain led conspiracists on one side preaching that Butch gave the starting job to Dormady because of some arranged marriage to his goddaughter then this take you’re bringing up. It’s almost to the point I’ll believe any crazy ole alternative, say Dormady beat him in camp and then lost the job when the team imploded. 😵‍💫

Howell was a little after his time. And he had interest in both Lawrence and Fields…just wasn’t reciprocated for justifiable reasons.

Not really. QD was pretty awful in 2017 and then got hurt.

I agree, but I think sjt's point was that Butch didn't develop QD and put him in an inflexible offense that didn't fit his skill set. That said, Dormady came here knowing what the offense was, and convinced himself he could fit into it when he couldn't, so he shares the blame.

He won the job but was not allowed to actually win the job. Jones was far more concerned about JG who sat sulking on the bench than the guy who earned the job. It is too much a form of torture but if I were looking for a single game proof it would be the UMass game. Jones almost blew the game trying to make sure JG got his series. There was no need for that game to be about anything but building the confidence of your starter. It was exactly the opposite. Dormady played poorly vs UGA. His 259 yds vs UF is the second most to Dobbs' 309 since 2011.

He had issues and may never have been a "great" QB... but IMO he would have been much better than JG given the same patience and opportunities.

Butch was on his way out the door before the season started. The Dormady/JG situation was just the nail in his coffin.

Can't argue with that.

Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere on VN. Green Bay is giving QB Quinten Dormadya looking at. I hope he makes the team even if it is only as a practice squad QB.
Packers Work Out QB Quinten Dormady

I am a huge Packers fan. And was not surprised at all when all this off season stuff went down with Rodgers. My mouth dropped when they traded up for Love. Was sure up to the moment he was announced that they were moving up for Tee Higgens or maybe another wide out. If this is Rodgers last season in GB, this might be a good spot for Dormady to be in. I have no doubt that Love is not the future. And even though we never got to see as much of Dormady as we could have, I feel he could be a far better QB than Love.

I'm a big and LOOOONNNNGG time Packer fan myself. I hope you're right about Dormady taking over post Rodgers. I'd love to see any player pretty much screwed over by Lyle Allen make it big in the NFL. They deserved better.

As for Rodgers, I think he saw what Brady did by leaving for a team willing to double bend over backwards for a name QB, he figures why not get some extra retirement money before bowing out of the game. He's just maneuvering for which team would provide the best chance for succe$$ for him. He'd want a coach he can boss around, better than average WRs, a decent RB, an ornery OL, and a decent defense. His name like Brady's would attract the kind of player$ he wants so he can go out on top so to speak. Like the NFL says, it's a business, so why not.

I was hoping thaat Green Bay would somehow find a way to end up with Trevor Lawrence. I get that Rodgers is a great QB, but he knows his time is coming. To trade up for Love was an insult to him. Had they had to deal Rodgers to another team to get him, that would have been less insulting. Depending on how Rodgers performs moving forward and wherever he ends up (hopefully not Dallas, LA or Seattle), I hope the best for him.
