ok, i've been on here most of the afternoon bemoaning the O line, play calling, and other various items regarding team 120 thru it's 1st two games.
but there are some positives...
starting with the obvious...we're 2-0. we could have lost either or both of these games, so we get to learn lessons w/out the penalty of the season feeling like it's in the toilet.
but there are other things as well....
Josh Malone and J Jennings went and made plays. one of my main criticisms of team 119 is that we didn't have enough people out there making plays that make the difference in winning and losing. both of these guys, with limited opportunities have made big plays for us. need that to continue, and they need more opportunities.
Hurd continues to grind out tough yards. i'd hate to think where this offense would be w/out this guy taking contact and still getting, 4, 5, 6+ yards. this kid never lacks effort.
DT appears to be a strength. all 4 of our top DT's have made an impact, but guys like O brien and Vickers really add quality depth and Tuttle looks to be just fine. K Mac takes double teams like he's supposed to. very impressed with how they played from the 2nd qtr on the other night.
Cam Sutton playing at a high level, even if he makes a mistake.
Micah Abernathy has been very good as well.
Special teams seems to have picked up where it left off, for the most part, the coverage units have been very good, return teams have yet to break anything, but credit the kick teams we've played limiting them with coverage and field position or touch backs.
this team, for all it's faults, didn't stay down, they did take advantage of both App St and VT mistakes, when last year we didn't always do that. for team 120, that's the difference between winning and losing so far.
they performed on a big stage. they had prime time Saturday night all to themselves, and they finally put together enough plays to hold on to, extend and win a game.
so while you won't hear me saying i'm ready to crown us SEC East champs, and i do believe we have a lot to do to get ready for the rest of the season, if there is good news it is this....they have found ways to win, where last year, we found ways to lose in big spots.
we need to take these pieces, fix the problems and put together a complete game, and move on to the SEC schedule.
