With Fulmer in charge, it is absolutely guaranteed that our new head coach will have Tennessee ties. No Leach, Frost, Taggart, Kiffin, etc. Martin, Cooter and, yep, Gruden are the three. One of these guys will be our hext coach. GUARANTEED. My guess... Tee Martin. The relationship with Fulmer is there, the TN connection and the OC background... Just like Fulmer. In fact, Phil tipped his hand yesterday making the OC reference. It's a "risky" hire, but it makes sense, and I think most of Volnation would applaud.

Tee could be one of the best recruiters ever at UT.

I'm not even typing the last name you did. Because it's utterly ****ing ridiculous.

Cooter is staying in NFL.

Kiffin has Tennessee ties. So he should've made your list naturally. He was once our coach....

Although I think there are better options available, I agree with OP. Tee is Fulmers guy. Prob the only guy he even considers

Anyone bring up Gruden as a realistic candidate should be banned.

JBC has made it known that he is an NFL guy and will likely be a HC candidate at that level soon.

I can get behind a Tee hire, but there are several potential negatives he will need to consider.

May want to expand your list before making a guarantee.

Fulmer lined up Doeren.

What is the connection between Fulmer and Doeren? I don't get it...

Do not want someone with a mediocre record in ACC. That ain't gonna cut it.

Meanwhile, Tee Martin just won yet another championship last night. He's a winner. Some guys are some guys aren't. Tee PAC 12 champ!

Tee’s not ready. Cooter is on the NFL head coach track. Steele has an abysmal HC record.

Any of these hires would be risky and could set us back. I’m all for bringing in Tee and Steele as coordinators. But if these guys were not Vols everyone would revolt again if they were hired.

How is Tee not ready? Naysayers said the same thing when he took over as QB once Peyton was gone. Just sayin

I do not want Steele at all but in his defense he coached at Baylor MANY years ago when they were doormats everyone scheduled for homecoming cupcake games. You can't even weigh this as part of the equation. It just doesn't count.

Exactly. And if they are such hot commodities then why didn’t they show up on anyone else’s radar? Because too many better qualified guys are still sitting out there. I’m all for having a TN guy. But the same fans calling for these hires are gonna be the exact ones saying how stupid it was to not give Les, Kiffin, Frost, or any number of better qualified guys a shot. And these VFLs are gonna be disliked in 3 or 4 years. The only thing worse than holding someone back is putting them in a position they aren’t ready for.

Tee’s track record is good enough for me to say hire him. You gotta make that jump from coordinator to HC at some point, why not now? He’s excelled in his current position, and I think he’s excel at recruiting in Knoxville.

I’d rather take a chance on a guy like Tee who you know will recruit well than bring on a guy like Doeren, Schiano, or some of these other names that are going to top out at 7-8 wins. While the floor might be lower with Tee, the ceiling is much higher and I’m willing to take that chance. Give him the funds to bring on a good staff and he will do well.

So you think Tee has a better resume than Les Miles? Based on what other than your rose colored glasses? If he hadn’t played for UT then you wouldn’t even know who he is.

How do you know Tee isn't ready?

If you listen to what Fulmer said yesterday he pretty much ruled out even thinking about Kiffin when he described the type of person he's looking for.

I think Kiffin would be HUGE here....but you can forget that name now that Fulmer is in charge....

Bad move by Fulmer if true. His job is to hire the best coach available not only someone with Tennessee ties.

Those would be orange colored glasses. But no, I'm not wearing them. I'm not suggesting they hire Tee. But if they do I'm confident in him. You are kind of answering your own question...I know him because he is a championship winning star from Tennessee. He's a winner period. He knows what it takes to win at a place like UT. How? Because he did it.....

Les Miles was trending downward before let go.....Tee is trending upward.....

I agree on Kiffin. You don’t generally hire a guy who replaced you anyway.
And I don’t know that Tee isn’t ready. Just like you don’t know that he is ready. That’s exactly the point. It’s the unknown. Any reasonable person should know Tee is trending upward. But with our program in the shape it’s in, and having taken risks on the last two guys, I just think a guy like Les is a way better, way safer bet to keep us from falling off the face of the earth.

IIRC, Gruden wanted Tee as a recruiting coordinator/CIW
