Hasn't been talked about much but I think the lack of a qaulity placekicker could be costly this season.

Does CPF suddenly become more aggressive this season instead of playing for the fg as in years past?

Will the special teams play (in general) haunt us again this year?

Haven't heard much discussion on these topics this year....are we just taking a wait and see approach?

personally i'd rather go on 4th down than attempt 40 yard field goals with a new kicker.

Florida won the Championship without a good kicking game... Lincoln should be alright at place kicker. Now as for the punter..we could be in some serious trouble if Colquitt isnt able to play.

The kicking game isn't relied on as much by the Gators. It has been a staple for the Vols as far back as I can remember.

FG kicking should be good enough.
The real kicking game question mark is punt/KO return coverage. There is simply no way to know how solid we will be until we see it at game speed on Saturday. This is as big and scary an unknown as there is coming out of preseason practice.

CD, I've been thinking about that as well. We seem to have had a great kicking game for years and take it for granted. But this year we will have a ? and I hope we can get it taken care of.

It is a staple of our game. As mentioned above Fla seems to take the approach of....well we didn't get a td so lets try and kick it. Lack of qaulity kicking cost Mike Shula his job! (imo)

Maybe i am worried over nothing!

Although it has been discussed very little. I agree UT does rely "Heavily" on it's kicking game.
The kicking game represents only 1/6 of my concerns this year.I know having a senior qb is great and all, but what about the d-line(see Arkansas and PSU games),o-line-lowest tailback production in over 20 years,d backs-Heffney will help out tremendously back there,,receivers-total under 500 yards between all of them,not to mention the special teams play from last year or overall tailback production.I quess we will know more after Saturday's game.Let's just say the coaches really have their hands full this year.

I disagree. We have had solid kickers for a long time.

Return game and return coverage... now that is a different story and one that continues to make me wanna :banghead2:

So, and boy do I hate to paraphrase folks, but what concerns you boils down to how we looked last year?....

Everything I see indicates that much of what concerns you has been addressed over the past month, WRs notwithstanding.

I'm not coming after you, just pointing out that what we must gauge is how we feel about this team that is about to take the field. I like everything I have seen about how this group goes about working to get better. Good things are coming. The whole deal just feels better than it has in probably four years to me...

It sounds like Lincoln has been improving day by day and Fulmer has really gained a lot of confidence in him over the last week or so. From the practice/scrimmage reports you read, it sounds like Lincoln may handle the shorter FGs while Colquitt will get the longer ones, pending his health, of course.

I agree though, it's something that concerns me as well. Could get pretty nerve-wracking should Lincoln or Colquitt miss that first attempt whenever it happens...

Here's to hoping there is no need for FGs.

Kicking when it means something takes a different mindset than practice and from what I have read so far Lincoln is only an average kicker under practice conditions........why else would you even consider putting Colquit in the mix?
