The perfect storm for South Carolina. They've had an extra week to prepare. Homecoming. Night game. Muschamp is 6-0 against the Vols as a head coach. We're down Trey Smith. Our QB may or may not be banged up. Our RB's are playing LB and our DB's are playing RB. But I'll be blunt: I think we stomp a mud hole in South Carolina this Saturday. Pruitt isn't going to lose to Muschamp. Bet the house. Bet the dog. Bet the wife. The Vols win this one.

Tennessee owns the series: 25-9, 2 ties
Largest margin of victory: Tennessee, 54-0 (1929)
Longest win streak: 12, Tennessee (93-04)
Current win streak: 2, South Carolina

"I expect to beat them handily"

"I think there is a major element that needs to be considered when comparing stats - their schedule vs ours. They have played 4 top 20 team so far this season (UF, GA, Ala, and WV). Alabama can skew a lot of teams stats. Alabama literally owned them the first half. In that game alone, UT suffered 3 sacks and 11 TFL.

I think CWM got it right when he said this will be a game of QBs. To this point, Jarret Guarantano has better stats than Bentley. And there is no drop off if Keller Chryst comes into the game. In fact, there are those that think Chryst is the better QB. Guarantano played tough against Ala last week but he really took a beating. He sat out the second half so he may not be completely healed. Regardless, If we don't get some pressure on their QBs we will have a tough time stopping the chains from moving."

"They have 2 really good WRs that don't drop the ball. We have 3 that drop the ball. I'd give that advantage to TN until our guys play to their ability. I hope we win easy, but I think it will be a pretty close game."

"Most likely a Loss if we pass for 46 yards again...."

"Tennessee has 3 really good receivers (Jennings, Callaway, and Palmer). Palmer got hurt against Alabama but I'm assuming he is going to play this weekend. I am very concerned about our secondary trying to cover these guys after what aTm's receivers did to us."

"Apparently many people here feel the same way, but I don't quite understand it. It's not like we're playing the Citadel. TN isn't a horrible team. They're pretty similar to us. I wouldn't be surprised either way. Yes, they have 4 losses. They lost to 4 quality teams with an overall record of 25-3. What am I missing?"

"I'm hoping for a strong game from Carolina. But, I'm not holding my breath."

"Bottom line is if Bentley starts we lose"

"I actually expect us to whip Tennessee pretty good. Having the bye week has to have helped us get a lot of things figured out."

"This is probably the most important game of Muschamp's tenure. He knows it. Bentley knows it and Tanner knows it. Win and the ship is sailing again. Lose and the ship is sinking fast."

"This will be a dog fight. It always is. UT has talent and they've played pretty well given the competition. Our defense will play well I believe. I really don't know what to expect from the offense and I'm worried they will play not to mess up (Bentley, Wr's), which is never good.

The whole night game hype is really irrelevant imo, considering UT knocked off a highly ranked Auburn in Jordan Hare. There is alot of apathy among fans."

"Anyway, UT has a new coach, new system, and new players. We have a 3rd year starting QB and a relatively stable coaching staff minus the OC, who was supposed to be an upgrade. We take an L against UT and even another one against UF--we've lost three games to first year SEC coaches. Two teams that we're supposed to be catching up with because they've had transition, too, will have passed us.

All I'm saying is, take an L to UT, it's no longer that this team is rebuilding, it's that we've hit our ceiling and other teams are passing us--again."

"Tenn is one of the schools that we battle head to head for recruits. Win and you can tell the recruits that we are a better program and closer in the rebuild. Lose and the recruits are told that Pruitt, in his 1st year, has tenn already ahead of Carolina."

"I expect to win by double digits and think that we will."

"I don't have a good feeling about this one... their team is improving to the point where we have to play a good game to beat them... Crossing my fingers we don't hand them Q1."

"Most teams would be lucky to have any points against Bama by halftime. Bama has plastered multiple teams 50-0 by the end of the first half. I consider UT scoring 14 on them in a half very successful, especially when you consider we couldn't score a single point ourselves against UK or TAMU in the first half.

If our offense looks mediocre again coming out of the gate, I fully expect UT to hang 20+ in the first half and we'll be fighting in the second half to crawl back while our defense has to have a spotless second half performance. That's not a recipe for success."

"I see us down 14-0 at the half with a few INT's and a fumble, we will probably lose 24-17 after an attempted comeback in the second half."

So the truth is, they're not really talking about this game. I searched 4 or 5 different forums for a game prediction thread and couldn't find one. They're beaten. And way worse than us. If you don't already have tickets, get them. Join me in Section 16. Let's beat the hell out of them in Columbia this Saturday and sing Rocky Top all night long!!!

Carry the fight to South Carolina and keep it there for 60 minutes!

Of our SEC games left, this is very winnable but is definitely not a given like I hope/expect Vandy and Missouri to be. Meanwhile, KY is likely to be more than we can handle this year. If we can handle SCjr, we have a serious shot at going 7-5 reg season this year. A near miracle.

If they hadnt had a bye week and we just lost Trey, I would feel pretty confident actually.

I like our chances against Ky. Would like to have Trey but I could see another Auburn scenario. We will see how both teams are playing leading up to that game - but as of today I think we surprise them in Knoxvegas.

The biggest takeaway for me is that they consistently say we have been playing well. It seems other schools see we are a well coached team again, even if it's not always perfect. In 7 games Pruitt has established more respect for TN than Butch did in 5yrs. People were afraid of Dobbs and Barnett but there would always be a. "Butch Jones makes questionable calls or is a bad coach" type comments right after giving props to Dobbs or another player.

Just a positive sign

If you could hear them on the radio all they are talking about in their call in shows is that they expect to beat us easily. Some score predictions have them 34-14. They feel that they have dominated us, which I think you have to go back to 2011 to get to a game where either team lost by more than 7 points (correct me if I am wrong). They also think because Trey is out now our whole left side of the O-line will be easily exploited. Also many are saying the "Black-out" game will have WBS rocking and make it even more difficult to play. Of all the games left this season I want us to win this one more than anything.

If KY plays us like they did Vandy and we get beat shame on us lol. SC looked much better than KY two weeks ago although KY did beat them earlier. South Carolina has a very tough defense and we have a sorry oline. We have good Qtrbacks and receivers they have sorry receivers. Gonna be a very tough game. I love JG but Chryst may be our saving grace if we can't hold their dline.

If my aunt had man parts then she would be my uncle.............. or at least thats how it used to go.

I am not thrilled about losing Trey but I am hoping he gets well soon and the guys rally around his absence. It will be interesting to see who wears his number.

BTW, OP, great thread, one of the things that I look forward to every week.

That win at Auburn was huge for bringing respect to the program. The coaching staff already had the resume. Just hope we can back it up with these last few games.

cant' believe there wasn't any discussion on the match up of their front 7 v our O line, especially w/out smith.
They have talked some about it. They do think their line will dominate since they are getting someone back for this game - can't remember who, but they like the matchup better now.

yeah, they get Wonnum back. to me, for USCe, that's about as good as FL getting Ce Ce Jefferson back right before our game.

i don't think the match up is that bad, but really, as thin as we are on the O line, i'm not sure there are any "good" match ups for us....lol.

They have been saying that which is another big point for them. Because they have played well against us recently, they see this as a must win for the program so that they stay ahead of us in terms of the east in general - not saying necessarily this year. If they lose, they see this as us progressing to getting back ahead of them and them regressing.

Interesting take, but I tend to agree. This is a huge game for both teams.
