Graduated from ETSU, but was raised to be a UT fan. Went to the ETSU game vs Citadel last year and that was ugly. We should put up at least 50 and hold them to single digits. They are a very bad FCS program.

I don't care if some of them don't like us, I'm still a fan of ETSU. And UT-Chattanooga. And MTSU. Cumberland. Motlow. Vol State.

If it's a college or university, and it's in Tennessee, and it's not Vandy, I like it.

Go Vols!
I’m going to end up being an Austin Peay alum, but I’d never pull for them over the Vols (not that it’d ever happen anyway)

ETSU hates us? That's almost interesting. Almost.
There is a weird pompousness within some of the administrative and academic people at ETSU and Johnson City in general. I think that resistance to being a little brother school within the state has grown increasingly over the last 20 years and starts with that undercurrent of attitude. Before that, I don't think it was displayed as often.

Take heart in knowing that much pain and suffering will be inflicted upon the sewer that is vol nation

Hey, now. That's getting personal. Pay no attention, @Freak. VN rules. All fan boards wish they were VN and had a poobah like you.

I get that dude and I'm right there, but after this past weekend, I did learn that I just don't know.
So, because Tennessee wasn't able to pull off a known upset, you just cant say if they will ever win? Sounds legit.

Thank you very much, Jackcrevol for adding all the good meat to my response. I didn't have time to list all of it at work.

Oh, man yeah, how did I forget Austin Peay? My brother-in-law is an AP alum! Let's go, Peay! :)

And Lipscomb, and Belmont, all those great schools in Tennessee!

I think about half of the people in JC and at ETSU are UT fans and the other are fans of any number of schools, UF, Bama, UNC, VT, etc. They just want to see the majority who are the UT fans miserable.

Never experienced that. If anything JC has a more blue collar demeanor. I ALWAYS experienced a massive attitude of pompousness both on UT's campus, to a lesser degree and most certainly in West Knoxville.

West Knoxville people are better than JC people, so that probably does come off that way to you. Not sure how anyone could spend time on ETSU campus and not catch some of that vibe. It was pretty prevalent over and above typical academia haughtiness.

They've only had a football team for like 2 years (maybe 3?? since 2003), and they have enough fans to hate us? I went to ETSU, and most of the students there are HUGE UT fans. I'm surprised, but let's be honest. This is going to be a blood bath.

49-10 UT, and that's only bc Pruitt wants to let EVERYONE play. Might even get some fans out there. lol

You really think West Knox people are better than people in JC? That says a lot more about you than it does us.

I'm still confused. We're blue collar folk, very down to Earth. Nothing you're implying is even remotely true.

I don't know how anybody who's lived here can think that.

I read this in Kanye's voice for some reason.

When I was in college at ETSU, the job of the football team was to keep the school in the Southern. Conference, where our perennial Top 25 BBall team did some good work. They regularly abused UT basketball about like the Vols will Saturday. In those days I would go to Bucs basketball games but always UT for football. Then of course UT grad school made sure I stay all Vol.

West Knoxville people have a greater societal impact and global significance than Johnson City people. Of course they are equal in the eyes of the Lord as individuals transcending the global realm.

I am sure your perspective and context lie in the blue collar sphere of influence in JC. I was first mentioning an unusual undercurrent of unwarranted elitism that unusually permeates a blue collar population, and it centers around university people in JC. So you are correct in bigger picture terms, but the outlier group that creates the unusual atmosphere typically resents UT, creating the origin of this thread.

People in West Knoxville apparently believe they have a greater Global Influence than those of us in JC. Seriously man, get over yourself. That's a pretty ****** attitude to have and truly baseless. If I was out somewhere and heard someone say that, I'd slap em.

Grow up.

That would highlight the very lack of class that has been discussed. You would be proving the very point that is troubling you so much. You really do a disservice to the proud blue collar community when you go full white trash with threats and demonstrations spotlighting a lack of proper pedigree.

uh! i bleed orange and have two pieces of paper from ETSU. it's always been UT. I love the Bucs...but, they are an FCS team, so i root for UT, always...except for Women's Golf & Soccer. ETSU has had some stellar female athletes. 😁
What are parking tickets running up there these days?

Man, this is crazy. I’m from the Tri-cities and it has always been about UT football. Through thick and the thin of the last decade, everyone talks about UT football, sports the gear and waves the flags. JC is East Tennessee as much as Knoxville. To say it’s “blue collar” implies its economy is fed by another and it can’t stand alone. The tri-cities is a metro area with manufacturing, engineering, health care, farming, and the whole lot. Regardless of that, it’s always been Vol nation and remains so. The atmosphere around here changes come football season, just like in Knoxville. This isn’t a rivalry and never will be. Chattanooga to Bristol is East Tennessee and orange country. The people that hate Tennessee the most are those living here and being counter-culture..

I blame Asheville. The hippy has been spreading west. They're a very small group though.
