The Official Tennessee vs. Utah State Game Thread, 7:00pm ET(08/31/14), SEC Network

Offensively I don't understand why we are throwing the ball so much. No reason why we shouldn't be able to line up and run it down their throats. And when we do pass, why have we stopped throwing to our tight ends?

I agree, but if that's the only thing that's working then keep passing. Maybe in the 2nd half the oline will start creating holes for the backs. Once Hurd gets an opening, he is gone. Go Vols!

Don't forget this is the first game of a long season. Bajakian could be using a very limited playbook for these first 2 weeks. May no want to be showing all the looks, wrinkles, and plays against teams that we are supposed to beat. Use vanilla plays. No reason to go out and show everything off in the first game of the year.

+1 for only one post in 4 years

You'll learn everything you need to about this team after half-time. If they come out better on offense, I'll be optimistic. We need better O-line push on rush plays and quicker decision-making from Worley. Quick hitting passes will be this offense's wheelhouse. Worley has no Tyler Bray in him.

How have we been vanilla? We came out throwing the ball. We hit Pearson on an out route two plays in a role on a run pass option of the zone read. We ran a reverse pass. We've used motions, shifts. We've used a few different personnel groupings. And there's still another half of football.

I want to see more running. The o-line has got to open some holes.

I know Worley is the starter and we're not going to pull him but with our oline I'd like to see peterman get some reps. He's supposedly more mobile than Worley and I wonder if he could make some plays with his feet when the pocket breaks down.

Here we go again.... Favorite fan player is the backup QB.

Pointless to give another QB reps. Had Worley thrown 2 picks and can't hit broad side of the barn, then yes.

We need to do a better job of valuing every possession and play on offense. Butch has said the team with the most explosive plays wins, and while that may be true to an extent, I think any offense should focus on staying on schedule with high percentage plays like slant routes. The explosive plays will come naturally; you can't force them. All in all I'm very pleased with the first half and excited about the future, but I can't help but question some elements of the offensive philosophy.

you dont have to show all ur looks and wrinkles but execution on the vanilla offense is still pretty bad!

I agree. But Worley has been impressive. Especially with his ability to make a guy miss in the pocket. He even made a good read and kept the ball on a jet sweep read for 5 yards.

But a lot of times the running game takes time. Especially with a new line.

This isnt Austin Peay. No reason what so ever to be holding back. We don't need to let this team continue to hang around.
