The Official Tennessee vs. UMass Game Thread, 2:45pm ET, CBS

Idaho Springs? How is it up there? Always wanted to visit...driven through there a bunch, but haven't stopped in yet.

Iove it. Just finished spring break skiing with my family. Ate here, watched first half. Wife and kids running around the old downtown while I watch 2nd half before we come home tonight.
Just perfect.

I was never one to think CCM deserved to be fired in year 3 regardless of whether or not we made the tourney, but if this game is any indication of our talent level we definitely underperformed for the great majority of the season and imo that's not worthy of an extension.

Would you have preferred that we won 28 or 29 games in the regular season and then got put out in the first round like, say, Duke?

tennessee's problem will be when they play a team that stokes and maymon can't just toss around like rag dolls.

but, as i have said during the course of the season.....you can seriously count on one hand the people that can produce in the post like stokes.

and there are only a few teams that have inside players with some muscle that can match up against that and not be totally outclassed.

Getting way ahead of things...but neither Mercer nor Michigan has anyone on the inside for Stokes and Maymon.

And which team is that?

The difference is the refs aren't calling these tourney games as tight as the regular season

Also personally rooting for Memphis this tournament, I'm fine with any state of Tennessee team having tournament success as long as they aren't coached by Kevin Stallings.

Let's just come out strong in the second half. I think if we can stretch the lead even a little bit over the first 5-6 minutes, UMass might fold like Jenna Jameson at a footboard.

It's absolutely gorgeous up there. I love the Smokies because they'll always be home, but wow the Rockies are impressive. Glad you're having a good time. :good!:

Before some of you think we are Sweet 16 bound, let's look at who we have to beat to get there. I am an ETSU grad and Mercer is the regular season and tournament champion of the Atlantic Sun conference, the Bucs' conference. They were also the regular season champions last year. Florida Gulf Coast won the tournament and as a 15 seed made the Sweet 16. They start five seniors and if you saw the way they methodically dismantled Duke despite Duke making 15 3's then you know we will have to be clicking on all cylinders to beat them. This same team a year ago beat Tennessee 75-67 in Knoxville in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament. I am posting this not believing we will blow a 19 point halftime lead. It really looks like men against boys so far in this one!
PS. ETSU is playing Towson State in the second round of the CIT (College Invitational Tournament) tonight. That is the tournament that Cuonzo won while at Missouri State in 2010.

Fulmer used to say they remember you for what you do in November, let's have a November to remember. Its the same, just March for basketball. Texas A&M and Vandy losses mean jack right now. Let's enjoy this team, and finish this game.

well, there are some teams that have some muscle.

for the most part the issue is, does tennessee take advantage of their superiority?

this was there all game against iowa. and for whatever reason, they didn't get the ball down low. at least not often enough.

the other problem is stokes and maymon are the only two tennessee has.....so (a) get them in foul trouble and that's an issue or (b) make them move and wear them out.
