Naaaaw. Didn't you just know that if we fired Butch, the 85 Bears were gonna walk out on the field the next week?
Sorry, just overwhelmed with listening to the Fhar Butch crowd since UGA acting like getting rid of him mid-season was somehow going to make us instantly awesome.
I did enjoy seeing the defense force so many three and outs. I don't know if they got tired in the second half compared to the first, but LSU wasn't really getting anything on us the first half.
Those drops by Callaway that resulted in the first 3 points for LSU (Good job to hold them to 3 there D!) mean each LSU score became harder and harder to overcome.
Without those 10 freebie points, Tennessee covers the spread tonight.
The defense just can't continue to let running backs stride into the end zone without even a single hand touching him if we expect to win.
This wasn't happening early in the first half, but it resulted in all the scores after that.
Those mistakes cost us. If Shaq could have knocked the ball down instead of grabbing the receiver long before the ball got there on that critical 3rd down, that's another eventual touchdown against us that we avoid.
Medley impressed me on the first field goal making it look easy from 45 and I was pleasantly surprised, hoping he'd repeat on the next one. The next one couldn't even be classified as a kick. It had to be the wind.
JG impressed me as the leader delivering on those first 4 completions and we were firing on all cylinders.
The defense consistently held LSU to 3 and outs and the offense consistently strung together first downs.
We were in the game even after the muffed punt returns and kickoff drop.
The snaps from center must have been off because JG looked like he bobbled several of them which started our offense behind the 8 ball before the play even had a chance to develop against a defense that we now gifted an extra step as a result.
Bituli showed out with some big plays. Callaway redeemed himself from that special teams shenanigans and Brandon Johnson came through on a critical play.
Tim Jordan looked good on that 28 yard screen from JG and Kelly kept his legs pumping and even dragged some players with him for an extra yard on one play.
Trevor Daniel showed out as usual and reminded the nation including the Augusta committee who decides the finalists for the Ray Guy award exactly why he is the best punter in the nation to get robbed from placement on the semi-finalist list ever and not just this year. It still almost makes me sick to my stomach the way they snubbed him.
I saw Colton Jumper get into the mix and make some stops. Kongbo got into the enemy backfield and caused some havoc that was nice for us. Hope his injury is just temporary.
Wolf made a nice grab.
There were some pass plays LSU's offense ran that you didn't even see anyone in orange within five yards of the receiver until after the completion was made and he scampered another couple of yards. That and getting gashed by the run up the middle eating up clock eventually was enough to supplement that free ten points we spotted them early and deliver the touchdown that put them up by three scores. That is the point when it seemed like the team started to either get tired or demoralized. I'd guess maybe a little of both.
I applaud Hoke for going for it on 4th down.
That is a gutsy call that showed he was playing for the win.
If we could have kept momentum from the first half performance, (didn't turn the ball over multiple times on special teams) and built off that performance in the second half, we could be celebrating a narrow victory now instead of picking up the pieces looking for the most important weak areas that need repairs completed between now and Vandy.
We want to win at least one conference game this season.
Missouri didn't whip Vanderbilt any worse than they whipped us so facing their offensive weapons in running back Ralph Webb and quarterback Kyle Shurmur is the challenge we need to be prepared to overcome with a proven plan to execute on Saturday.
