The Official Tennessee vs. #17/20 West Virginia Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, CBS

Guys don't get down TN football over 10 years has fallen down a lot but I saw a lot of good signs it's only going to get better, just wait and see.GO VOLS!!

Exactly this team isn't a hapless no signs for hope or optimism team.
It will be a growing pains season except the Vols can still play better this season, win games and be a great team. Or be a decent team that wins above 7 games.

On a positive note I liked seeing some flashes of success on offense. We also have some good field generals, finally. That said, if there was one thing that became obvious is that we need better speed...especially on defense. I’m not talking only about smoking 40 times (which is great) but also the aggressive quickness that allows our line to explode into the opposing line or our lbs and cbs to react and fly to the ball or ball carrier. We need this again to compete with the big boys, because clearly they all have it. WV had an extra gear that we seemed to not have. Hopefully, we will fill this need over the next few months and years! Go Vols!

I don't disagree. But, I really don't have a problem with it. Vols are a 6-6 team at best this year, which is better than they were last year. They just don't have the talent or experience to go toe-to-toe with any ranked team this year.
And while I agree with that (partially) I have a serious issue with stat-padding of any sort be it Heisman or otherwise.

Should’ve hired Helton as HC. Pruitt as D—-nevermind.

Does anyone else remember our most recent team with a 3-4 defense? The difference in quality or execution between this squad and Sal Sunseri's band of wandering gerbils cannot be understated. We will have a respectable year, earn the attention and commitments of some top-quality recruits, and step it up a notch again next year.

I'm liking Pruitt's post-game comments. "I've got to do a better job coaching them too ... and I'll help them out a little better (next time)." He had good praises for Grier, and that's good.

If we could have scored the TD in the 4th and closed out the game with WVU 33-20 win, I would have been somewhat satisfied with the outcome. It is so disheartening to be a VOL fan so long and not see a quality product on the field. But Hey, let's fire Fulmer in 07 and go 15 years sucking.

Just my 2c. No, I wasn't real proud of what we put on the field. But .... we weren't playing a cupcake either and it's impossible to simulate game speed and atmosphere in practice. Yes, we are down in talent a long way from where we wish we were ... some of that is potential not being coached up by the previous administration and some of it is likely just lack of ability in evaluating talent. It is what it is though. I am not going to judge players or coaches until at least mid season or so ... and then I'll judge on how quickly both coaches and players seem to be learning how to make the best of the situation they inherited. Until then, there are too many variables and unknowns ... the coaches don't know how a player is going to respond in a live game and the players don't know what they don't know yet .... they're both learning on the fly. Give them some time. I hate to lose as much as anybody. But Saban couldn't have walked into this situation and turned it around first game either. It's early and there are promising signs. I'm gonna keep the faith and judge way down the road. If it was easy to build an empire overnight it wouldn't be as rewarding....we'll see

If we do not play smarter which includes game schemes we use then the Vols will not win enough games to improve recruiting. High School players will forget Pruitt's history on national championship teams. I'm very disappointed with Helton's strategy when we fell behind 20-7. We were going to have to use a 2 minute drill for the rest of the game to try and keep up with WVU and win the game. Helton did not do this.
I don’t agree that we needed to run a 2-minute drill down 13 early in the 3rd. There was no scheme changes that would’ve stopped this. WV is simply better.

Hamilton and Haslam say hello. I’d like to invite both of them behind my wood shed.
