The Official Tennessee vs. #17/20 West Virginia Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, CBS

This is a team of players that just don't know how to put it together in the field yet. We will improve but we will be lucky to make a bowl game.

It is what it is, this is a two or three year process. Enjoy the ride or find a new team.

Yes patience, and I'll keep this one. I'll enjoy watching them grow.

Been a long time since CJP has been on the losing end of a game like today. I bet it’ll take a little time to process. Lol!!

Terrible play calling and coaching can make good players look poor. Hopefully the coaching staff and players can evaluate their mistakes in this game. I'm not writing off a bowl game yet but am disappointed with today's performance.

Also this team was not playing together at all today for most of the game.

Offense can be effective but not defense, defense showed they can be effective except not offense when needed including not scoring a needed td after the impressive turnover.
Play as a team for bulk of game and execute they likely win games and can be a great team or good team, don't play as a team for most of the game then it will be a miserable awful frustrating harrowing season with most likely no wins or a losing season.

It always seems the other team is aggressive and we're just going through the motions. I'll continue to support the Vols no matter what. It gets rough sometimes but we'll be alright. Go Vols

You're joking right? Self imposed penalties. DB's not locating the ball. Poor secondary in general. No explosive offensive plays. No pressure on QB. Allowed career night for opposing QB. Couldn't run with consistency.

Looks a lot the same to me.
I didn’t say we looked great but we looked better than last year. I guarantee you we will not go winless in the conference again. WV is a good team. Top 5? No. Top 15? Yes. We are nowhere near top 25.

I’m amazed at how many people think Pruitt was supposed to come to Charlotte with a bunch of freshmen and dudes that haven’t won a game since Oct of last year and shut down a Heisman candidate

We had zero pass-rush today. Zero.

We didn't just play poorly because of freshman in the secondary, the entire offensive scheme was a disaster.

Because if you know football. You'd know it was his assignment. It's called isolation from the play stand point. The outside wr did a come back and kept the CB shallow allowing the slot to get deep behind him. It's the safeties responsibility to roll over and cover.

I wouldn’t try to explain sense to some of these people. They truly don’t understand it.

They were either believing instant turnaround or were using some drugs.
Either way that is a astounding unrealistic expectation.

The Mountaineers are in the League of the 2017 Rams for scoring offense, and the Vols defense isn't in the league of the Juggernaut Crimson Tide so yes that is a astounding colossal unrealistic expectation.

We'll be back it will take a year or two but at least we have a coach that will play to win ( 4th down call) we'll get there.

We'll be okay. It's going to take time to turn things around. I saw some things I really liked today, and some things I didn't. So did the staff, and now they have an actual baseline to work from. A few notes:

- Guarantano is our QB.
- Jordan is our RB.
- We have talent at WR.
- Our OL is still a work in progress.
- Pruitt showed brass balls on the first TD. That will pay off down the road.
- The 3-4 is a work in progress. Those front 3 have to either stuff the run box or get pressure on the QB. If they can't do either one, it's going to be a long year. The back 4 were MIA for most of the game. If that front 7 doesn't shape up, and quick, again...it could be a long year. Lotta work to do here.
- DB's are not the strength we thought they would be. Pruitt has his work cut out for him on the defensive aide.
- Our ST units are okay.

So we'll be 2-1 heading into the UF game, which now becomes a must-win for UT. That game will tell us if this is a 5-7 or 7-5 team. Anything to either side of that is either under or over achieving for 2018. Temper your expectations. This is, in fact, a complete rebuilding job. Those take time.

Go Vols.

It all starts up front. Anyone could throw for career highs when the rush gives him 5-6 seconds to get rid of the ball. That was too much time for our young secondary.

I expected the team, ESPECIALLY the defense, to not quit and to hit hard and show guts. Watch the DL quit on the next drive. Watch missed tackles.

That is the FIRST red flag for me. It isn't impatience, but guts can be instilled in an offseason by a great coach.
I cannot agree more. You either have it or you dont
