The Official Tennessee vs. #17/20 West Virginia Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, CBS

Well they said all our players were 4 & 5 stars when we signed them don't look it
“They said”. That’s what I mean. Jones recruited a lot of players who may have been highly rated in high school but either have been busts or who are incapable of being coached up.

I can’t stand WV and when they get it handed to them no one will be cheering louder than me. Good night

And to think I waited all year for this.

Not much to like in this one but I’m very happy to not see the players quit. The defense just didn’t show up after the delay. I’m afraid that it might be way longer than some of us hoped before we even compete. Don’t have enough talent/speed and it showed badly today. That’s football I guess. Go Vols always.

We got throttled but I still feel this team has some potential. Our DB play was surprising and not in a good way. Trey Smith really had some untimely penalties. I thought JG played well. Effort was there.

No we didn’t. We were more disciplined, better prepared, and the coordinators were decent. WV is just better. We have better days ahead.

You're joking right? Self imposed penalties. DB's not locating the ball. Poor secondary in general. No explosive offensive plays. No pressure on QB. Allowed career night for opposing QB. Couldn't run with consistency.

Looks a lot the same to me.

Well Secondary needs work. And we need a better pass rush. But overall we showed a lot of improvement

They threw and ran on our defense at will. It would seem that entire defense needs to be transplanted before we see even a modicum of improvement over 2017.

Definitely not a good showing. The concerning thing to me is the talent is on the roster on both sides of the ball. Offensively we seemed a little improved. Defensively, we look awful, just awful and that’s supposed to be Jeremy Pruitt’s strength. Going to be a longggggg year. Really disappointed for the players more than anything. I think a lot of them bought in...only to achieve the same result.
If we do not play smarter which includes game schemes we use then the Vols will not win enough games to improve recruiting. High School players will forget Pruitt's history on national championship teams. I'm very disappointed with Helton's strategy when we fell behind 20-7. We were going to have to use a 2 minute drill for the rest of the game to try and keep up with WVU and win the game. Helton did not do this.

Due respect, I keep hearing about all this “talent” on the roster. By this point, I would think we could all acknowledge that TN ha a serious talent deficit at many critical positions.

Or did you mean “lack of talent”?
