It's pretty obvious Dooley didn't want to use the timeouts and end up going 3 and out leaving enough time for Bama to score. They got the shot they wanted, Hunter blew it. Running out the clock made sense after that.
They played that entire series with the purpose of connecting on one long pass with 30 seconds left. If Hunter had caught it, 30 secs and 2 timeouts would have been plenty to score.

Against your rival? No way do you leave those timeouts on the table when you are within striking distance. That's the problem, we seem to only want to score on deep bombs and nothing else that takes a little skill and coaching.
And the coaches didn't give the offense a chance to make another play after the JH drop.
