Looks like Gregg Doyel has turned on Chris Johnson as well. Doyel was one of his biggest supporters a few weeks ago.

Chris Johnson snatching defeat from victory's jaw - CBSSports.com

Once upon a time, running back Chris Johnson held all the high cards in this game of poker with the Tennessee Titans. He was criminally underpaid, he was putting up Hall of Fame numbers, and everyone knew it. Even the horse's asses knew it!

Johnson held out this preseason for better money, and he couldn't lose.

Only now, he's about to lose. And it's his fault. Or his agent's fault. Or, more likely, it's their fault in conjunction.

A few weeks ago Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt announced that the team would make Johnson the highest-paid running back in NFL history if he would just report to camp and let his agent negotiate the deal while Johnson was getting ready for the season.

Johnson refused. And kept holding out.

And this week, finally, he blinked. He came to camp to negotiate a deal, but left without one. Apparently the Titans were offering record money, but Johnson wanted more. He wanted record money ... plus more.

And now he doesn't hold all the high cards in this game of poker. Johnson is losing, and maybe has already lost, one of the few aces on the table -- public sentiment. It's one thing to look tough and confident and ambitious.

It's another to look greedy.

Johnson looks greedy. He's starting to tick off the Titans, and as you can tell from this story, he's already lost the support of at least one horse's ass.

That's essentially what I've been thinking. The worst part is actually agreeing with Gregg Doyel...

There is no doubt CJ deserves money but he's just coming off as super greedy and selfish. I'm convinced he doesn't care about winning as long as he gets the most money possible. I can't blame someone for wanting to get the most money possible but it's certainly not going to make me a fan of them. At least not when I think watching football(a team game) is suppose to be fun and am wondering about the best player showing up because being the top paid running back isn't enough for him. Not to mention the effect it's potentially having on the locker room and even worse, handicapping the Titans when it comes to building the team.

Unless they can hammer out a 4 year 40 million dollar deal(20 mil guaranteed), might want to see what they can get in a trade. Seeing as he wants more than the top paid running back, I doubt any other team would want to pay him that on top of trading picks. CJ is painting himself in a corner

Not absolutely positive this is true, but a guy at work just said:

The last time a top 3 running back made it to a superbowl was Shawn Alexander with the Seahawks. The last time a top 3 running back won a superbowl, was Emmitt Smith with the Cowboys.

I was thinking, and can't find an arguement against that.

That is clear cut proof that RB's are role players, and that you don't need a star back to win a 'ship.

Are you going by numbers for the season when you say top 3 running backs?

I don't know where they ranked during the season but Marshall Faulk(Rams) and Jamaal Lewis(Ravens) were really good. Rams were built around Kurt Warner and the passing game more than anything though. And running actually was all the Ravens had on offense but no one thinks to themselves, "Jamaal Lewis is the reason the Ravens won the Super Bowl". They think fewest points allowed in the season(or close to).

Yeah, yards in the season. Obviously running back is an important position, but the league is a passing league now. Thats just the way it is. Peyton, Brees, Brady, Roethlisberger, etc.. All winning championships with role players at the running back position.

And they're the ones winning the Super Bowls. Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger... none of them had great running backs.
I agree with all of this, my point is that it doesn't apply to the Titans. We don't have the quarterback or receivers to play this game. I also don't agree that there is only one way to win in the NFL.

Basically, I'm saying the running back position is a lot more important for the Titans than most teams in the NFL right now, and it always has been. If they are going to change their philosophy they need to trade CJ and start building from the ground up to get there.

Hopefully they get a first round pick at least. Trading elite talent for draft picks hardly ever works out, but we shall see.

Don't think that will be happening

And personally I'd wait for someone other than profootballtalk to be reporting it, especially from an "unnamed source"

They jumped the gun pretty big on something earlier this summer (my apologies, it escapes me at the moment as to what exact event this was)

Yahoo sports, per STATS:

Aug 25 Coach Mike Munchak says the Tennessee Titans haven't talked about trading Chris Johnson and the answer would be no if the star running back asked for such a move.
Advice: Munchak says Johnson is under contract for two more years and Tennessee hopes he'll be a Titan even longer. Johnson and his agent met with Tennessee general manager Mike Reinfeldt in Nashville on Wednesday. The running back returned to Orlando and told The Tennessean on Thursday that he and the Titans don't see ``eye to eye.''

I'm with you. I'm hoping they get a good player of their choice, and a #1 pick. Good riddance if he is traded IMO.

NFL reported today that it will not punish Britt for his lockout arrests

Essentially, appears to be given much less leeway (compared to other players) if something were to happen to him again later
