The Official Tennessee @ Arkansas Game Thread, 8:30 PM ET, SEC Network

Turner was a good player, secondary player, not that much of a difference maker outside of hitting 2-3 big game winners in his time here. Poor shooter. We would’ve been better with him no doubt, but this isn’t even an NIT team, so there’s no way just adding Turner made us a tourney team.
He could handle the ball, shoot the three, create shots, and was a leader who added toughness. This would be a much better team with a healthy Turner, I believe.

Coach Barnes must blow up this team for next year. Must say goodbye to 2 or 3 players who are not going to help us. I know we have signed 3 very good players but none of them address the two biggest problems we have on this team. Issue #1 no bulk at all inside. Fulky gives all that he has but he gets pushed around too much. 2# must get a point guard with great quickness who can stop the other teams guards who are killing us on the drive this year. Players to say goodbye to [1] Johnson- he will get no time next year with Keon, Jaden, Walker, and Bailey playing next year [2] Plavsic- will never move well enough for barnes defense + he is already 21 years old the same age as grant williams and 6 months older than Pons how much better is he going to get. [3]?????

I see a lot of promise in Plavsic. He moves well for he size, good passer, catches the ball well and has decent post moves....he will learn.

Despite his age he is young experience wise and provides the bulk you referenced needing. At the very least he is a solid backup.

Yep he has potential

Springer and Johnson solve some problems. They are elite playmakers at guard. You can get away with a lack of an inside game if you have elite playmakers at guard who can get to the basket. We don’t have that this year.

Johnson is also an elite defender. Next year will be entirely different, and Vescovi can play off the ball some.

No effort into recruiting? We got 2 5 stars and a high 4 star, and a good grad transfer from Oregon coming in next year. His roster management dye the losses of Burns and Walker wasn’t real good, but I wouldn’t put in the “no effort into recruiting” category.
I said THIS team. Barnes took a couple years off from recruiting and then tried to run off to UCLA when he realized what he had this year.

Did UCLA ever hire a coach? Can we have a mulligan? Most on here dont even realize how much better this program could be. We have A LOT to offer and could be a perennial power in the SEC, but we've settled for mediocrity way too often. Our "best team ever" didnt even win a share of the SEC under this current staff. Barnes is embarrassingly overrated. Always has been.

I’d strongly disagree with a healthy Turner. The biggest weaknesses on this team are turnovers and the lack of ability to beat someone off the dribble. He answers both of those and was our best on ball defender. The only game we lost when he was healthy was to FSU, I think we’d easily be a tourney team with him
One really good guard who plays both ends yes it makes a huge difference. Look at Arky with Joe without. Because of the youth of this team his injury derailed this year.

Agree with your statement but not all the players you mention. I agree JJohnson won’t play next year. Also don’t think Pember will ever play here. I think Plavisc will improve and contribute as a Jr and Senior. Not 100% sold on Gaines. Love his hustle but he’s a toothpick. Will need to gain a lot of strength to be a contributor after this year

The two prior years we won more games than we ever had in a two year stretch. What evidence supports the idea that Barnes is holding us back from being this elite perennial power?

agreed. I think if we still had Turner (and everybody else was the same), we would've won some of the games that we probably shouldn't have lost like against A&M, @ SCar, and potentially hold on against Auburn (we missed having a veteran guard when they were making a run).

So I think we'd have at least 2-3 more wins, potentially more. and even just two more puts us at 17-11 which would have us on the bubble imo

I would still like to have a tough post player that could be a double double guy. Just 10 and 10 with some shot blocking ability and girth.

Because this fanbase f-ing sucks and bails on any coach or team at the first sign of adversity. I can’t blame him. I hope he goes somewhere next year where he will be appreciated, he takes the whole recruiting class with him, and our garbage fans have to sit through a 5 win season next year under whatever waterboy UT has to beg to take the job.
👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿

We are a 61% win percentage program all time. I just don’t understand people thinking this place is one hire away from turning into a blue blood. If we were capable of that, it would’ve happened decades ago.

Not to mention if he’s fully healthy there’s a good chance we beat the likely ACC champion Florida State, who we lost to by just 3. I realize he played but if his shoulder was right, who knows

I think if one of the incoming freshman can give us an offense pulse we will be good. We have scoring inside with Fulky pons, hope plasvic gets better with a year under his belt. I think Ganes and Oliver and a healthy JJJ will be alot better also with a year in the system. We also get the Oregon transfer.

Plavsic can be that guy. Has to get quicker so he doesn't get abused in pick and roll switches.

So u are saying when Barnes decided to recruit again that he just suddenly happened to pull two, 5 stars and a top 40, four star and the number 4 class in the nation ? Get the f#ck out of here, u are trolling or are severely lacking in any college basketball recruiting knowledge.
He did not have any of those players signed when he was flirting with UCLA, not one of them on the dotted line.....it appears you have drank the Barnes toxic lemonade and you may need treatment......
