The Official Tennessee @ Alabama Game Thread, 9:00 pm ET, SEC Network

The sad part is I think we will be worse next year. I mean who is going to step up and score? What size will we have that can produce at a productive level?

I mean good lord we are free falling. I think we would have a solid program here right now if Martin would have stayed. If Barnes starts to feel pressure, he is old enough he may just say screw this I'm out. Then were left searching again

I don't agree with a free fall. Win one. Lose one. So far it's sideways as expected.

Consider possessions and total points too. Factor in how the refs were calling the games. Consider whether the home team or the away team gets the close calls. Consider that once the refs start calling fouls, they call both ways... and your only productive offensive player can sit down with fouls and it won't impact the game.

That's all considered. One would think Barnes would yank some people out of the game if they choose to let a guy blow by them time after time in the lane and not do a damn thing about it. That happened 3 times in a row. Nothing was done about it. Our defense was atrocious down the stretch just like it was against A & M. However, A & M is a good team. Bama is not. They're hot garbage. Just like we are.

When games are tight down the stretch a coach can and will usually win or lose you the game. Barnes doesn't have a good track record so far.

But it's a short bench. 8 men plus Phillips and Kasongo. Really 6 or 7 considering how hated Reese is and Alexander is too raw.

I realize that, but we had no one challenging the drives. Put Kasongo in there or Alexander to guard the rim. Baulkman didn't deserve 38 minutes of playing time tonight. Only reason I can guess Mostella only played 13 minutes is Barnes wasn't happy with his passing. He said Mostella threw a pass that hit the backboard and another one that was closer to the scoreboard than it was the player. We still needed his offense more.

Mostella couldn't play D. He gave up back to back easy looks and pretty much sat the rest of the way.

He wasn't any worse than what we were seeing down the stretch though. We sat there and watched Obasohan waltz down the lane almost the entire game. Phillips also deserves some more playing time IMO. He does good things in limited minutes for the most part.

We aren't doing much this year, but the A & M and Bama games are going to be 2 games we wished we had back if we are on the NIT bubble. Year after year we get into ugly games against Bama and more times than not usually lose them.

Dude.

The only reason Barnes should ever call a TO is stop momentum.

He proved at ga tech and again tonight he isn't going to call a TO inside of 30seconds.

He also proves tonight he has no go to set plays he can draw up when we need a basket late as evidenced by an 0/7 shooter taking a shot early in the shot clock after a TO.

He's a pathetic in game coach. He doesn't need TOs at the end because of his own admission he isnt a joy stick
Coach

Pretty sure "pathetic" is a tad strong here, given the results he's managed to scrape together with Punter, a two or three okay players, a broken wheelbarrow and a mop bucket. He's got a tendency to let the guys play out of problems rather than call time outs; I'm not sure I agree, but that doesn't make him "pathetic."

Yep. Pretty much what I figured... I figured I'd get on here and see people calling for the coach to fired.. Volnation never disappoints. Lets be realistic guys.. You knew this team wasn't gonna be that good this year. Calm down.

:hi: Spot on, as VN returns to panic mode...like Tennessee teams have never seen this sort of thing before when a program is de-shamble-izing.

There isn't going to be an NIT bubble to worry about. Which is sad enough within itself. We have gone from a perennial Sweet 16 contender under Pearl to worrying about being on the NIT bubble. Very sad to say the least.

Will say my piece and be done with it for the rest of the season. CRB and staff have done extremely well with what they have to work with this season. All of this is about the leadership and performance of the upper classmen on the roster. You can practice until you bleed out your eyes, it will not help if the leaders do not do what they need to do to run the team and perform well on the court. The only real coaching issue I see as an issue is substitution combos/patterns. Bama knew the only offense last night had to come from Punter with the way the rest of them were clanking it in the first half. So they focused on him and got the job done while our D quit. CRB needed to find and even develop the second and third options better in that game.

It is really obvious that the team actually plays better offensively when Armani is not on the court, or in a much reduced role down low. He tries to do too much. Admiral making the two 3's should have been the last two times he attempted those in that game. It wasn't. Unfortunately, Hubbs is just a very mediocre player and hindrance on D. He chooses to be that way. Stella is rarely in long enough to develop a rhythm. He better hit early and not mess up on D or he will be out quickly. They can scheme the D to assist his weakness and did for him and others with the zone. Didn't matter, he still sat on a very offensively challenged night to say the least. When that happens it is usually because of a lack of focus and using poor form - bobbin' and weavin'. I like fast paced, transition based offenses. But that was bizarre at times. Over passing and a helter skelter mess. There had to be other options for offense for them to win the game. Unfortunately, the subbing decisions killed that IMO.

This team was never going anywhere unless the players decided they were going to give 40 minutes to D and play within the system every single game. That is a personal choice by each player. As a result I would prefer CRB use the rest of the season for development like Butch did with the football team his first couple of seasons. Buy in or go away. CRB will probably defer to the seniors - hope he doesn't. Punter is the only one that deserves that honor IMO. I admire Armani's effort and toughness, however, he is basically incompetent with the ball in his hands running the offense and makes some of the dumbest decisions with that much experience. Yes, he is limited in his abilities. All the more reason to play within them. I would like to see Alexander, Schofield, and Phillips playing 25+ minutes a game along with Stella. Play through "the wall" so it will benefit the team next season and beyond. If Hubbs wants to play a part for next season he will figure it out and give the effort on both ends, which he is not doing now and really never has. They have zero to lose and everything to gain by going youth movement. An NIT appearance may get them one or two more games at the most.

Carry on. Go Vols.

With 14min left, the Vols had a 93% chance of winning. Even w 3min left we had just about 90% chance of winning.

Pathetic in game coach was what I posted

He is obviously a very good coach at all other times

When u make Cuonzo look like a sideline maniac, u r pretty close to pathetic.

I must be a jinx. I finally had a chance to turn on the game and we were leading by 15. Instant meltdown. When this team makes a poor play or misses a wide open shot it seems to infect the entire team. No one steps up. I kept asking myself how the H did they get up 15 looking this bad. No defense and I swear poor Baulkman must be the worst passer in the nation. Bama did enough to win but didn't deserve it. Tenn. did enough to lose and deserved it.

Curious how you got that number?

2 for 3. Same as, if you shoot 33% from 3, it "counts the same" as shooting 50% from 2. An example.....if you hit 2 of 6 from three, it's 33% and you score 6 points. Conversely, you'd have to hit 3 of 6 from two, 50%, to score 6 points on six shots.

This game made me curse out loud. I never or hardly ever get worked up over basketball but thought they might be turning the corner only to have a head on collision with a ditch. No excuse for that dry spell and lack of hustle to get back on defense

I like Barnes, and i think he was only hired to keep us out of trouble for a few years, and make us respectable, but last nights game is what he is known for. Epic collapses
