The Official Tennessee @ #7 North Carolina Game Thread, 5:00 pm ET, ESPN

Recruiting is basically fine now. He has set up the program for the next 3 years with guys who can play. We do need a post, but he doesn't have to be a 5 star. Need rebounds and a rim protector.

Exactly. You can accomplish a lot with guys that hustle and take coaching. I am extremely proud of the boys tonight.

Don't have a clue what you're talking about, do you. Go troll in the bowl.
Truth hurts. Choking is when you lose after having a big lead Vol or not. Just telling it the way it is. I understand we had a 15 point lead and lost.... not so hard to understand. Do you understand how to count? We played hard but could not handle pressure down the stretch.

If it wasn't 5-on-8 in the 1st half we might have built a lead that couldn't be overcome. Terrible calls...how do 3 refs not see that swipe-off-the-backboard goaltending?? Hysterical blindness? (later they correctly called it on us, natch)

Proud of the effort and grit; Barnes has these kids playing their rears off. We go up 8 inside 3 minutes if Schofield makes that three...instead half a minute later we're tied. It just wasn't meant to be.

A casual observer might've been confused about which was the top ten team.

That's just not how basketball works.

I never post on the basketball forum but I do want to say that we played well tonight. I am proud of the effort and they got the 50/50 calls down the stretch or the outcome may have been different.

I love Rick Barnes. He just said to Kesling," being close isn't good enough"

A thought from Rob Lewis of VQ...

.@DarenStoltzfus I think the perfect solution actually would be to just let Rick handle the post game football PC's.

The Vols bball team had no business going to Chapel Hill and pushing this game to the buzzer but they did. A win would have been a sight to behold. Feel bad the team couldn't finish. Congrats to UNC for clawing back after halftime.

That's just not a fair representation of how the team played today. A little context is sorely needed here.

I thought we fought hard and played well tonight, just wasn't enough. I like what Barnes has going with this team.

Drove 3.5 hours from Asheville for the game yesterday and here are my observations:

I am excited about the team this year. We should have won the game, no doubt about it... but... we play hard. And for a team picked to finish 13th out of 14 in the SEC, i love the hustle.

I am not going to blame the refs for the game. Calls were suspect both ways at times, but when we got up 14, i had a feeling there would be some ticky tack fouls on UT and there were.

Some individual things:

Williams and Fulkerson were overmatched size wise, but they play hard. Although giving up weight and height Williams was 3-6 and Fulkerson was 4-4 from the field. There were time when both had good position and the point guards wouldnt even look at them. Both make good decisions, I think we can get them the ball more. Both were calling for it and open at times, but no one looked it.

We gave up 22 offensive rebounds, but when I rewatched the game this morning, there were a lot of times our smaller guys let their men come in and tip the ball away. That CANT HAPPEN. The refs allowed for Fulkerson to be grabbed from behind and thrown out of the way, found that weird.

Turner, Phillips played well in the first half, but in the second our offense was soooo stagnant (they combined for 8 turnovers). Turner just dribbles around pointing for guys to go places instead of moving the ball. His shot to tie with four seconds left, was incredibly selfish. We have to run something better than that. Fulkerson was open on the trail. Surely, a left handed lay up over Tony Bradley isnt going to get it done lamonte.

Is Alexander that bad that he can't get some of Evans minutes. Haven't been impressed with Evans so far this year. He took a three with less than four left that would have been huge. Would have put us up six, but missed it. He is now 1-8 from three on the season.

Glad to see the boys have a chance last night, but drove home thinking to myself, "We should have won that one."

Great points...I'm sure that it felt great to be orange-clad in that sea of blue for about 37 minutes of game time!

You are spot on about Turner btw. I'm sure the coaches have insisted that he has to get offense set up but he was way too focused on that instead of making passes. He shouldn't have gotten that many minutes at PG over Phillips imo. Turner made some huge shots...and forced some bad ones, which is to be expected by a RS Freshman. If Bone is healthy, we win that game.

Also agree about Alexander. I thought he actually played pretty well so not sure why Evans gets that much PT.

Where in the world has Admiral been!!!?? Dude is not even close to the level of play he was at last year. Hopefully it's just rust but we need him back soon!

Been said many times but worth reiterating: Bowden is going to be a star at UT. Fulks and Williams are playing way above what anyone expected. The future is bright. Kudos to the staff. I think anyone who is still criticizing Barnes and Co just needs to stop watching.

Pumped to see this team in Nashville Sunday...GBO!

There are numerous quality basketball players on this team that give maximum effort. They play for a coach that knows what he is doing. The future is bright. If you do not see that you are ignorant about the game, have an agenda for whatever reason(s), or are simply trolling. Ignorant can be fixed - study and understand what CRB is trying to overcome and instill into the players as second nature. The others can't be fixed - they are intentional.

Roy Williams said he felt lucky. He should!!!!

Said it was the luckiest game of his career. We should've beat them but didn't finish. Gotta find the killer instinct late in games. That's what separates great teams from elite teams.

I can't find fault with much about how Tennessee handled the late-game pressure except that I wanted Hubbs or Phillips with the ball in his hands the last 8 seconds.

That play definitely looked drawn up for Lamonte

He brings lots of good things to the game, but he's not the one I want driving into 6'8" traffic and shooting with the clock winding down.

That play definitely looked drawn up for Lamonte

That could be true. My only thought is that he sat out last year and maybe that came into play a little bit. He may have tried to force what Carolina took away. I was telling someone at halftime that I went into this game expecting a loss but hoping for a win. And now that they lead at halftime I was going to be more disappointed with a close loss than a blow out. I could tell that whole second half that Carolina was making a push and that they would eventually get the lead. I was praying that our guys would pull it out. But my gut was also telling me that it's just not our time. Our guys are young. They don't know how to handle this situation yet. I am very disappointed. But I haven't been this proud of our guys in Orange since the Elite 8 loss. So many guys have complained and downed coach Barnes saying he is past his prime. He can't coach. Can't recruit. Our guys outplayed Carolina most of that game. They deserved to win in the end. Much respect for being prepared and playing their tails off. If that first few minutes of the second half we hadn't turned the ball over a few times we may have pulled it out. So let's go 2-0 Tuesday and Thursday and take that same fight to Gonzaga.

Lamonte drive and dish it out to Bowden in the corner for a game winning 3. He was there for it and shot well all day, but Turner just didn't look for him.
