The Official Tennessee @ #23 Ole Miss Game Thread, 7:00pm ET (1/24/13), ESPN2

Hey Francis, show me where I ever said UT wouldn't finish above .500. I hope they win the rest of them.

Now run along and make your bet and then come back and brag about paying off the trailer.

They need me in a game like this, put me in once and I run straight through Henderson. At least make one of these stupid fouls count and shut him up!

I hate that I was right, but without Maymon this is just an average team. No way they were going to beat Ole Miss on the road.

so we just ignore it and it will fix itself? Rommel...Where is Rommel?

Not what I'm saying...it was a serious question, would you bench josh and Jarnell?

Skylar is the best free throw shooter yet people want him to be glued to the bench...so which is it? Play the bad ft shooters who are good players, or good ft shooters who are bad players?

Why because I said sit Jarnell and josh?

There are plenty of faults Zo has and questions I have about him...but freaking out about ft shooting isn't one of them.
Well we are leaving a lot of points at the line and those are points are killing us. But I guess it really isn't that big of a deal

.....

You have to have a winning record to get in the NIT.

Are you not implying in this quote that Tennessee won't have a winning record? If not, then what was your implication in this statement...

If you are so ignorant that I have to explain that statement, you must be posting in crayon. Now run along and leave the adults alone.

They got closer than I thought they would. Hit 4 of those damn FT's they missed and cut down on some turnovers and they could've won. You can't beat good teams turning the ball over 21 times. You'll struggle to beat average teams. A lot of times the turnovers were unforced. Walk after walk after walk.

It's a big deal, not saying it isn't, I just think there's more easily correctable faults to this team.

We were 2 ft made away from being 70%, and you can't ask for better than 70% as a team that's acceptable. So we left 2 points at the line tonight...

No how many did we lose by committing 21 tunrovers? Idk how many points they had off turnovers, probably 10 atleast, plus that's 10 points we lose by turning it over...so there's 20 point we left right there.

Lol how many ways you gonna try to spin it?

You can tell players to work on them, whether they do for 1 hour or 20 hours a week is up to them. If this team had a few more option there may be repercussion however...

Our best ft shooter is a guy everyone wants benched the entire game...so which one is it?

About as many ways as you want to spin it that none of this is on Martin.

What's the point of having McBee on the floor when he isn't going to do anything to draw a foul?

The kid hasn't taken a shot inside the arc in a month and is a liability in defense and rebounding.

Valid argument but good teams find a way to get them to work on it, he is paid millions to find that way. It costs you close games it cant stay like it is. We play a ton of pushovers early, might be a great time to let them watch and tell them why.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, that it's Martin's fault Mcbee doesn't get to the line?

Not true about the good teams...rememeber Cal at Memphis? Many of your "good" teams aren't good ft shooting teams.

Hell look at Kentucky again, or the Miami team that waxed Duke last night...both are worse from the line than we are.

Somebody needs to get into Jarnell's head. He plays without passion or purpose it seems. I'd sit him and bring him off the bench.

good point, honest question...Free throws and turnovers to me are about discipline, does this reflect on CCM because that is one thing I never expected with him.

Free throws I don't think so, maybe it's just my opinion, but I think that's on the players honestly. It'd be easier if you add some good players who were good ft shooters, but right now I'm not even sure you could field a stating 5 of all 70%+ ft shooters. It also hurts that your best big man and starting 3 who's youe best defender are 50% from the line.

As for turnovers...I guess it's largely in part to not having a true PG. However, goldens assist to turnover is actually pretty good, so it appears to be on the other guys. We had 21 tonight and Jordan had 9 of those, he should have 1 or 2 a game, 3 max. Armani had 3 and he's done better than that usually, richardson had 3 and thats been an issue with him. So right there is about 10 turnovers that shouldn't happen, that'd put us at 11 turnovers a good number and about a 15 point swing.

You appear to be taking a told you so approach and implying fans are wrong for wanting McBee to sit in implying that he would somehow be the answer to our free throw woes.

I am saying he is too much of a liability in other facets of the game and lacks the ability to actually draw a foul for it to matter.

I am also saying you appear to be another in a long line of fan that wants to apologize for the coach no matter what and blame everything on the players.

It's a combination deal no matter how many circles you argue in but it is an inherent likelihood that a team will take on the personality of its coach.

Based on the performance of the team under Martin, that appears to be a personality of sloppy fundamentals, a lack of basketball IQ, and a unique ability to repeatedly fold in crunch time.

Make it about the players all you want, but teams in any sport play like they are coached.

No definitely not my approach on Mcbee, I want him benched. I'm simply pointing out that we want to bench bad ft shooter, AND bench our best ft shooter...so who's left???

Did you watch Zo at all at Missouri State, because the personality of the team you described isn't them. The biggest issue is he has a PG who seems unemotional and not the least bit involved, and that's something this team can't afford. However, hands are kind of tied because you need someone to bring the ball up and golden is the best we have at that. Now is that martins fault for not recruiting a PG, absolutely and thats where the blame lies on him largely IMO. However, there's no point in beating that horse, right now ya gotta work with what you have, and his only shot of them winning some games is golden getting going...thus the reason he keeps playing me.

The team needs to learn to finish close games by controlling the ball, playing through contact, making free throws, and being more physical on defense IMO. Richardson had a great and one that stopped ole piss's momentum but it wasnt enough to overcome their lack of D on Henderson. I wish I had a dvr so I could go back and watch what happened.

I'd simply like to see some incremental improvement in free throw shooting from the guy that should be one of our best post players in Stokes. And others as well of course, but Stokes leaves so many points at the stripe and it seems he is regressing in his game overall.

We need a few more free throws throughout the course of these close games. That's a given.

I think a concerted effort in getting the guys as a team to simply work on that would show some improvement and potentially better results in the win/loss record.

They haven't been over 70% from the stripe in the last six games and that is one area where a little extra work, be it in practice or on the side, could make a difference in a hurry.

I absolutely agree with you on the PG issue, nothing much to be done about it for now. This team is so listless and disorganized on offense for long stretches and that is a direct reflection of not having a "QB" to run the show.

But Martin has to find someone to take charge and at least be the go to guy with the game on the line. And getting 30 ft contested looks with the clock winding down isn't the way to do it. We are halfway through the season and it seems they still hit the panic button any time they really need a basket.

Free throw shooting aside. Our basketball IQ at the end of games is pretty terrible but good effort tonight.

All things considered, this is the biggest problem. They have pretty much been in a position to win every game but one with 5 minutes or less left. However, when the game is on the line, they are unable to match the other team's intensity and they don't execute on either end of the floor.
