Richard Pitino has driven that program back into the ground. Just really poor game planning IMO.

Tubby' leftovers gave him a decent first season but it's been downhill from there. He will be in the market for a new job this time next year.

He got hired at Minnesota because of his last name. His record in his lone year at FIU was 18-14, less than stellar.

Only 2 conference wins this past year was a low point for that program. single digit wins after 40+ wins the two years before is a really bad trend.

8-23 this past season overall. Not many decent coaches (if any) have ever seen that big of a 2 year decline (23 wins to 8 wins) and been able to climb out of it and become an elite coach.

From what little I know about gopher basketball it looks like to me their best years since the 90s came under tubby. Looks like to me he took the program to or near it's ceiling which is the best way to gauge a coach IMO

Love seeing McRae start tonight. But crazy seeing him and LeBron chatting it up during a timeout. Kind of crazy. Awesome to see former Vols at the next level!

Supposedly Tubby was making $1.8m, he interviewed with Memphis and gave TTU a chance to keep him, they upped his salary to $2.8m. I will be interested to see if Memphis can either match that, or come close enough that Tubby takes what's probably the easier job for slightly less money.

Personally I think $2.8m is very high for Tubby, but then again look at what they were paying Pastner.

Tubby would be a "meh" hire. Basically the exact opposite of Pastner. One a young recruiter who can't coach and plays fast, the other an old great "x and o" coach that can't recruit and plays slow. He could do well at Memphis if he gets a couple good recruiters on staff. Really thought they were gonna throw the bank at Buzz Williams and make him say no.

@GoodmanESPN: Tubby Smith, per source, will likely sleep on the decision whether to go to Memphis or remain at Texas Tech.

I don't really care one way or the other, but I hope he says no. I just want him to have another decent season at TTU, maybe make the NCAAT once more, and then retire on his own terms.

I would love him to say no. Would be a serious slap in memphis face

Like some said, he's not worth the nearly 3 mil. He's an average coach. Was never much more than a slightly above average coach imo. Would have been best had Minnesota not been stupid and let him go.

Love or hate Kobe, and I hate him, that was a fun finish to his career. 60 on 50 shots. Lol

I hate him, but it is kind of sad to see him go. I also hate he GS beat the Bulls record. That Bulls still would have beaten the GS team though. Pippen would lock-down Thompson and MJ would do a pretty good job against Curry. I don't see anyone on GS's roster that could stop Jordan and Pippen though.

I'm neutral on Kobe. I'll be rooting against GS in the playoffs the whole way. Hope it comes down to SA and CLE.

Lmao Chris Beard is the leading candidate for the TTU job supposedly, wonder if his contract is signed with UNLV yet, if so its a $1m buyout. Poor contract by UNLV, gotta front load that buyout to prevent something like that from happening, would be disastrous for them.
