Although my boy is only 13, he's about 5'10" and around 200 lbs. I suggest everybody just let him be.If you are sitting anywhere near Hatvol, you both need to wear ponchos.
I have been to a game at every SEC venue wearing orange and I would say Oxford is probably the best place I have visited.
I have never been to Oxford, even though I live in Memphis. Hoping to make it Saturday if one of my ticket connections comes through. But I have been to several other SEC venues, as well as a couple of non-conference venues. It would never occur to me to NOT wear my Orange.
Then again, I don't talk smack when visiting and try to resist being provoked by the occasional jerk.
After the Alabama game my son and I got a lot of back slaps and hand shakes even though we were the only Orange within 1/4 mile in our section. Of course, they were especially gracious, having just barely survived that game.
I have found that if you are polite, maybe show some interest in whatever traditions are important to them, then you can wear your Orange and even cheer for your team without any problems. I love the Vols but I try to show some respect when I am a guest in another team's stadium.
Likewise, in my season ticket section in Neyland, we self-police any Vol fans who don't treat visitors with courtesy.
Might seem contrite to some of you. But that's just how my Dad raised me when it comes to college football.
