well, last nights race pretty much knocked me out of contention for winning the summer portion of the fantasy league. Went in 12 points in the lead, after the race, I am 56 points behind the leader. Friggin Kasey Kahne.

I hope Kurt gets in

Me too, and I hope Newman wins the race next week to get into the Chase, and then miraculously goes on to actually win the Chase. How funny would it be if SHR fired the series champion while letting Danica keep her ride so she can keep selling shirts? Nothing would highlight the absurdity of modern NASCAR better than that.

LOL. Nobody's going to remember who ran second. People would definitely remember the year the Cup champion got fired while his teammate ran 30th and kept her ride.
Seriously? A rookie running 30th, like that's never ever happened before! :ermm:

If I remember correctly most thought Newman would be out of a ride at SHR back at Daytona in February as Harvick was announced he was going SHR in the fall of 2012.

A rookie running 30th isn't a problem. A rookie in Hendrick equipment and with constant media attention running 30th is.

I fully understand why Danica has a ride next year, and it has nothing to do with where she finishes in the points. I was just saying it would be an odd scenario if the Cup champion got fired while she kept her place on the team. Clearly that scenario is a long shot, as Newman will have to win on Saturday to even get in the Chase.

He doesn't have to win to get in. He has a pretty good shot of making the chase if he gets a top 10. Winning the championship is another story. I don't think he is being done wrong at SHR. If GoDaddy and Haas want to put their millions behind other drivers, so be it. I was hoping he could stay, but it is what it is.

You aren't blaming the equipment are you? Hendrick has supplied great stuff year in and out.

No I'm not, I'm saying, you put anyone else in Hendrick equipment and they will contend for at least a top 10/15 finish weekly.

Thats what i figured you were saying. Just wasn't sure.

We all know why Cantica is there. :run:

Exactly.

That said, if TRD can fix their reliability problems I think Clint Bowyer could upset that #48 team. All season Bowyer has been consistent week in and week out and that is huge. He really needs to win next week to get some bonus chase points though.

Ole 5 time is NOWHERE right now. They need to get their stuff together if they want to race for the title this year.

Danica proved to me that she wasnt capable of driving a race car in the NNS series. She had THE best equipment there and couldnt put it in the top 30. Plus, the guy who is driving her car in the IZOD series has won 2 races thus far, she couldnt consistantly finish in the top 20 in it. Face it, she is nothing more than a publicity stunt and will run no better next year.

Getting back to my Clint Bowyer example, say he wins the championship and doesn't win a race, would NASCAR drop the Chase because of something like that?

no. I know its comparing apples to oranges but 3 years ago in the NHRA the guy that won PSM never won a race all year.

No. Carl nearly won it without winning. I think the Chase is great. Adds some real tension towards the end of the season. If this was the old format, I would not be on pins and needles trying to see if Jeff Gordon can make it into the top 10 of the standings.
