The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

I know the motto of "If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin' but what I really meant is do you think they are cheating more than the normal. I know every team tries to bend the rules as much as possible to gain the slightest advantage. I just wonder how far they are pushing things and getting away with it.

I can't stand Jimmie Johnson as a driver nor Chad Knaus as a crew chief but there is no denying they have been the best in the business for a long time now. I think JJ donminating for so long is actually hurting the sport.

Really like both JJ and chad. They know how to get the job done.

For me domination in NASCAR is a lot different and more tolerable than in f1. In NASCAR Jimmie may win ten races in a truly dominant season, less than a third. In f1 you can have one driver easily win two thirds or more over a 20 race season. That sort of domination really turns people away. I think Jimmie is doing no harm.

It probably wouldn't be so bad if JJ had just been dominate for a season or two but we are talking about six or seven season and pretty much in a row too. I think people get tired for seeing him win races and championships. Except for his fans anyways.

It would be diff if JJ was entertaining. He's either vanilla, or crying and blaming someone for his mistakes.

I am not a huge BK fan. I think he has a good bit of growing up to do. At least he is honest and says what he thinks.

BTW, I get you all not liking the 48. I have the same feelings about Vettel and Red Bull in F1. I don't like to see them win, I think he has no personality, and I suspect them as a bunch of cheats(despite the indiscretions of the driver and team I pull for). It's part of racin and being a fan.

What is important is that we are all friends and enthusiasts on this forum!!

So the increased ratings help NASCAR, the sponsors, and ESPN, right? But it hurts the track, and the teams to a degree in decreased memorabilia sales. Would NASCAR be reluctant to drop a track that gets good ratings but poor attendance?

This isn't just a NASCAR issue. Less successful NFL teams are having trouble drawing because the stadium experience is being marginalized by the TV experience. Nothing beats though attending a race. No TV can replicate the sound and the joy of not having to sit through 62 minutes of commercials. With 30+ races though, I think a ticket to a NASCAR race should be cheaper than an NFL game.

Not to mention the smell. It adds that extra bit to the race experience to have the odor of race fuel and tire smoke fill your nose. I was there when Justin Allgaier won his first Nationwide race at Bristol, and after he did his burnout the wind brought the smoke my direction. The stuff burned my eyes so bad that I was as good as blind for a few minutes. It was pretty awesome.

Marcos Ambrose has won the last two races at Watkins Glen and has never finished worse than 3rd.

It makes me happy that we have to only deal with ESPN's NASCAR coverage for one more season. I am curious who will be on the NBC crew. Perhaps the old NBC/TNT guys like Dallenbach and Bestwick will move there.

No. Just...no.

Really? You don't think 'ole blue eyes' cant handle business?
