The Official NASCAR Talk Thread

One thing Michael Waltrip doesn't have trouble with is funding.

I agree with this. While he may not have people "lining up" to sponsor his teams, it's well known that he's pretty much a sponsor whore who will do anything to make them happy, so I have faith that all his teams will show up at Daytona fully funded.

If I was a betting man, I'd say the you won't see the #56 team next year.

I'd say MWR is scrambling right now to keep 5 Hour Energy on board. Dominoes may be starting to fall after SpinGate.

Haven't seen it posted yet but Nationwide Insurance will not be back as sponsor for the 2nd-tier (Saturday) series in 2014. It will now be interesting to see what company signs on!

Nationwide to shift funding to Cup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)

Nationwide will end its seven-year run as entitlement sponsor of NASCAR's second-largest series at the end of the 2014 season and refocus its motorsports spending to other areas of the industry.

NASCAR announced a new deal Wednesday to extend Nationwide's contract as its official auto, home, life and business insurance partner through 2017. The insurer also becomes the presenting sponsor of the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award.

Nationwide to spend more on track sponsorships and in the Sprint Cup Series, where it recently funded the car of two-time Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at Bristol and Richmond. Nationwide has a three-race commitment with Stenhouse this season, and has agreed to sponsor four Sprint Cup races next year.....

Wouldn't surprise me to see NAPA try to put it's money there. It's cheaper to be the series sponsor on Saturday than it is to be on 1 cup car on Sunday.

Larry Mac said during one of the practice sessions this morning that he thinks there is something more to NAPA leaving MWR than just being upset with what happened at Richmond.

I think its possible that when it came out that Nationwide would be gone that NAPA used it as an excuse to get out of there contract to move to be a series sponsor? I guess we'll see, I would be shocked if a new company not previously associated with NASCAR took over as the series sponsor with the way the economy currently is.
