Hmmm. Watching NASCAR America as I am often wont to do, and they were stating that Penske was as good as Hendrick. I think that is some knee-jerking reactions. They did a great job, but they ain't on my HMS team's level.

HMS is obviously #1 and then you have Penske, SHR, and Gibbs competing for 2nd. I'd rank Gibbs 2nd, SHR 3rd, and Penske 4th

In terms of the total package of cars, drivers, and teams I would rank them thusly:

1. HMS
2. Penske
3. SHR
4. JGR

And like you said, little separates the 2-4 teams.

HMS is the obvious 1.

Jimmy is Jimmy. Gordon is sliding but still respectable. Junior is a walking cash register. Kahne will be replaced.

JGR is probably the best on overall talent. Kenseth, Hamlin and KyBu is a stout line up.

SHR. I like Tony .....but he's yet to pick up any real momentum in this new ride. Crash or no Crash. Harvick is consistently good. Urt is a great driver when he isn't going insane....runs hot or cold. Danica... welp


Penske has Brad. Wheelman, Champion, Provocateur. A younger, consistent version of Urt. And Joey Logs.... I think failure at JGR was the best thing for him. Consistently fast. Smart. ...best days are ahead.


I'd argue that it's HMS, JGR, Penske and SHR.

Stewart has 3(one in his first year as owner), Kurt has 1. That's why I put SHR above Penske.

Though I would say Penske is trending up.

I think the expanding to four teams this quickly has really hurt the performance of the entire team. I think next year we should see SHR perform better.

Harvick has been carrying the torch. He's been the most dominant driver this year, minus the bad luck issues (pit crew, flat tires, crashes)
