The Official Miami (OH) @ Tennessee Knoxville Regional Game Thread (Fri. 5/30 7:06PM EDT ESPNU/ESPN+)

If the Vols win the Knoxville regional and a team other than Arkansas wins the Fayetteville regional, would the Vols host the Super Regional as the higher seeded team or would the team that won in Fayetteville still host?
They talked about this yesterday and like when we played southern miss after winning the Clemson regional, it’s a committee decision.

Vols would be the seeded team they would likely host Super Regional if Arkansas got upset. Look at the three options.

North Dakota State wouldn't host
Kansas doesn't host
Creighton is only one of the 3 but I don't think it would happen...

If Arkansas loses and the Vols advance, we are hosting no matter what since we are a 1 seed. A committee decision only comes into play if the same seeds (2-4) of a matched up super regional advance. It would happen that way if say Wake and Kansas advance.

No it's not. The reason we played at USM for the Supers was because neither one of us was a national seed that year. So that's when the committee decides who gets to host the Supers. If we come out of our regional this year and Arkansas doesn't we would host Supers because we are a national seed.

Creighton can not host! With their home games being at the CWS field, they can not host on that fields for regionals or Supers.

Would they not just take the 9 seed in that case and we play there

I think Doyle pitching tonight is a numbers thing. If you don't win first game, the chance of winning regional is very low.
Exactly this.

Lose game one, and pitching gets really, really thin by Game 4.

As with all coaching decisions, if it works for us it will be a no-brainer, if it doesn't, the critics will be out in force.

Not second guessing just gonna play devil's advocate... if any of UT weekend pitching loses to a 4 seed in a regional then UT probably isn't going to advance far, and I'd prefer Doyle vs UC .. that being said, need to go ahead a set the rotation with Doyle as our Friday guy. (Besides if Marcus is really on there shouldn't be much traffic to cause issues)

What do you mean take the 9-seed? Tennessee is a regional host. If a non-regional host wins a regional (e.g. Kansas) and the regional host opposite of them (e.g. Tennessee) wins their own regional the regional host will always be the Super host. 2023 was only the way it was because both teams were 2-seeds and non-regional hosts. That’s the only time it’s in the hands of the committee.

Start your best period. Then when you win the regionals you have the same rest to start the super regionals. Check out Florida right now in trouble.

If we win and Arky loses we host. Already have our Super Regional tickets ordered.
