LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant had a clear answer when asked about being not a great friend:
"Friends come and go but banners hang forever."
That was as much Shaq's fault as Kobe's. Shaq was pretty mean to Kobe when he first got to LA
Report: Lakers "didn't make a strong impression in their meeting with LaMarcus Aldridge
Maybe Shaq was a dick, I never heard that, but Shaq has friends all over the league and Kobe does not. It takes 2 so I'm sure Shaq shares some blame.
Remember, Shaq was the one who stood up for Kobe after the 4 air balls in the playoffs.
Shaq had a great series against Detroit. Kobe had a horrible series. Kobe wouldn't re-sign until the Lakers traded Shaq. It doesn't make sense for Kobe to not want Shaq around. It's on Kobe, for the most part.
Might have been like 7 banners if he could have been friends with the most dominant center of his era. He wanted the spotlight to himself. Friends last longer than the spotlight does.
