The Official Kentucky @ #4 Tennessee Series Thread (Fri. April 18th 6:30PM EDT) (Sat. April 19th 6PM EDT) (Sun. April 20th 1PM EDT) All Games SECNET+

I can’t stand the holier than thou fans as much as the next one, but I think a little perspective, especially given the history of our program pre-Vitello (and certainly) last year would go a long way. These losses hurt because of the expectations this program has now. I think this weekend will likely galvanize this very young team. Baseball is not for the faint of heart, and there will be certain lumps along the way. CTV gets paid what he does because he’s one of the very best at what he does. You can’t fan baseball the way you do football or even basketball - you will pull your hair out if you do. I’m very excited to see how this team responds. Better now than in June!

What hair? 😉
I learnt a while ago, this lesson regarding beisbol. I have a tendency to point and snicker at folks that just don’t seem to grasp that sports are a game. Of course, I don’t gamble on the outcomes either… 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

…really love me a good bad beat…

Losing a series at home to UK still stinks tho....bigly.

It’s just a further monetizing of EVERYTHING, there are no breaks anymore. I used to park in the gravel lot directly behind RF as it was first come first serve, now it’s a permit only lot. I transitioned to the first come first serve CSX lot, now it’s a permit only lot. Thankfully there are still some free lots/garages around but they’re not making things easy by any means.
My point exactly. Soon G16 will be $20 for every baseball game. Just wait….it’s coming.

Per D1 Baseball, UT is the youngest team in the SEC. If they go .500 for the remainder of SEC play, they will host a Regional and if they win, a Super Regional. I hate to think how off the rails the game thread was yesterday and today, but the sky isn’t falling. Unranked teams beat top 10 teams virtually every weekend. It’s baseball.
This is a talented team, but no where near the talent of the 2024 team (and that’s understandable considering who they lost). They have a chance to have an incredible season but don’t expect perfection. Enjoy the ride!

Do we still want Tony here? (JK through sickening feeling)
YES! ABSOLUTELY! Hear me out Vol Fans....there are bumps in the road to success and even more when your opponents want what you got. Call it rebuilding...cool your heals, take a chill pill, and just cheer loud. We can grumble but, we owe this team and staff our best support. Beat LSU!

No need to bitch, moan and behave like some individual posters. You would think there is a large contingent of Beisbol fans around here that have taken a team to a CWS and won a natty.

…rant put on shelf for the moment.

Absolutely a lot of variables happening the last few weeks which have exposed some flaws. To me, the most glaring issue is the mental mistakes being made regularly. I get a ball being booted or a bad throw, but the mental errors at this level have been quite noticeable. Play clean baseball the next few weeks and good things will happen.

True, but as Taylor pointed out, we're very young. Guys are still growing into this league. They're not secure and as confident as they will be as they get more time under their belts. Seasoning and time to come together is all we need. Well, getting AJ back would be pretty sweet, too. Just can't complain when my goal before Tony V was to just make Hoover. I'd all but given up on UT being competitive in baseball.

100% correct in your post. Just enjoy the ride

I know baseball is a crazy sport where every team is gonna lose games but moving forward I think we see Kilen at SS and maybe Backus a shot a left field or DH against lefties , our young guys have struggled getting on base and pretty much swinging at first pitches that’s led to weak contact , at the end of the day the top of our lineup has to get it going and put some runs on the board , I thought this was Tony’s deepest most talented pitching staff but the last 3 weekends have been pretty average minus Doyle

Sadly, these same losers and their look-a-likes don't know how to fan football (or basketball) either. Usually you find the same people dumping garbage in threads across the spectrum on the regular whenever anything doesn't go our way. They are typically hysteria addicts or people with a mean streak who want to rant. Pissing off the board is often a bonus for them. You will see them flock to basketball and football threads if we are losing -- or really at the slightest reason -- the same way they do here.

I don't think it's lack of understanding: it's not hard to understand roughly the peculiarities of baseball compared to other sports. I listened to people who obviously had a lot of understanding when I got here, and took their word for it provisionally until I could begin to see it for myself. Hell, you can simply look at the records of championship teams and figure it out for yourself (to some extent). It's lack of emotional control.

IMHO, no way you stick KiLen at SS with a still suspect hamstring, plus he has an average arm and is projected at 2B in MLB. However, Chris Burke has suggested Kilen as a possibility at SS upon his return (especially since Curley has been at 2B lately) so you might be correct. I’d love to see Backus get some ABs as well
