The Official Indianapolis Colts Thread

I didn't think the comments were that bad. Almost in a way I think he was saying "having a complete team is better than having the best QB", but guys like Dungy and Fox seemed to be upset by his comments, and they probably know more about Irsay's personality/intentions than I do.

And with that being said, if the Colts weren't horrible at drafting OL and DL for the last half dozen years Manning was there, they might've had another SB.

Plenty of blame to go around for sure. Should have never hired Jim Caldwell in the first place and fired Polian sooner. Irsay's comments did have some truth behind them, I don't think he was really taking a shot at Peyton though. But he should keep his mouth shut more and stay off twitter.

Polian did a great job building the team but I think his decision to not play Manning and his receivers from entire games at the end of the season cost the Colts at least 1 SB (the year they lost to Pitt on the Vandershank missed fg).

I didn't interpret Irsay's comments as a shot on Manning - just that the Colts don't want to rely on a QB so heavily in the future.

Early on Polian was great, he sucked last few years there. The Tony Ugoh trade and miss was huge. I did not take it as a shot at Peyton at all

I like what Polian just said on ESPN...he basically pointed out that it's easy for Irsay to say this stuff now, but when they have to resign Luck things are going to be a lot tighter when he has less $ to play with for non-QB positions.

That's true but remember even when they paid Peyton they still had Freeney, Mathis, Wayne and Sanders under bigger contracts. Now that might mean as an organization you have to make better draft picks, something Polian forgot how to do his last several years in Indy

Game Predictions? I may be crazy but I think the Colts are going to win a high scoring game - maybe something like 35-31. What do others think?

Depends which team shows up, one that beat 49ers and Seahawks can beat Denver. The team that showed up against Chargers will get blasted. I am sure Mathis might be a little motivated.

Because Peyton took less to keep them.

It's not about paying 5 guys, it's about being deep.

When Bob Sanders is hurt, and the other team is running the ball, Freeney and Mathis are neutralized and the Jaguars go for 300 rushing yards.

They really never focused on stopping the run. On D it was all about playing with the lead. Get up, make teams pass and let Freeney and Mathis come off the edge get sacks and fumbles. The way I see it during Polian years it was really pay Freeney and Peyton give a few guys around them nice contracts and then everyone else is free to go if they wish you will get replaced in the draft.

Right, and the only time they won a SB is when Sanders got back in time for the playoffs, they signed Booger, and started Rob Morris in the playoffs. During the regular season they were a terrible run D, but in the playoffs those 3 came together and they stopped the run.

That was the worst run D to ever make the playoffs, LOL.

That's for sure, when they gave up 1500 yards rushing to the Jags in that game I just laughed and said well this will be another short playoff run. Especially seeing we met up with Kc with Johnson that first round if I remember correctly.

Agreed. I've wondered why even have a human play caller. Someone needs to develop a computer program which has a fair amount of randomness embedded within in it which would suggest a play given 1) opponent defense and personnel, 2) down/distance/field position.

It's called "Ask Madden"

Wayne going for MRI today, sounds like it could be worst case. I don't see how this teams makes playoffs without him.

Lulz. If you're team can't make the playoffs without one receiver, you're term isn't very good.

Does it suck? Yes

Will it mean the difference between the playoffs and staying home? No

His leadership and experience on the field can't be replaced. Also our best TE Allen hurt in first game of year and is out for year.
