What i now hope happens: We get first pick in the draft, spread rumors that we are really interested in Luck. Decide to trade the pick for a numerous picks & stack some players around Peyton on O & D. Oh fire the coach he is awful.
It would make much more sense to get Luck and build a team around him. Peyton is not a long term solution at QB.

Painter is the least of this teams problems. Caldwell is terrible and should be fired. Polian has done a terrible job of drafting lately. D sucks as usual and oline is pathetic outside of Saturday. I am ready for April.
I think Miami will still get it. I know that Miami came closer to winning, but throughout this season, they've looked like one of the sorriest football teams I've seen in a long, long time. Indy has been at least scrappy for the most part, and still have a number of very winnable games: Jax*2, Tenn*2, Carolina.
Miami goes to KC in two weeks, but other than that their schedule looks like this: @Giants, Skins, Bills, @Boys, Raiders, Eagles, @Bills, @Pats, Jets. The Phins should get run off the field by all of them.
Got my first chance to watch Newton in the pros yesterday, and I'm thinking there's no way in hell the Colts beat Carolina. They put up 33 on the 3rd ranked defense. Not to mention they have their run game going, which is murder for the Colts.
You guys act like Polian forgot to build for defense. The Colts really only build with the draft and Polian has just simply been striking out on OL/DL picks. They have little talent on OL, and no depth on either line. That's their biggest problem. Painter/Manning has no time, but Manning can deal with that. Moala is the best DT pick Polian's made, and he ain't all that good. No wonder Colts can't stop the run.
Then of course the injuries aren't on Polian. They miss Bullitt, badly.
They do miss Bullitt but our corners suck. Powers is descent but the rest of them are terrible. Linebackers are not very good either. DTs are average. I have a problem with the coverage calls more than the players actually. Every D play call is the same, d backs drop back 10 yds off the line and bale at the snap

A good secondary is crucial nowadays. It would be nice to have one shut down corner.
A part of me wants the Colts to trade their pick to upgrade the defense. But if Manning's prognosis is questionable at the end of the year and if the Colts have the #1 pick, then I think you have to select Luck.

If they do get the number 1 pick, you can't pass on Luck. If they get the 2nd or 3rd I would like to see them trade down and gain some picks. I am sure they could find a team that is in love with Landry Jones and would give up multiple picks to get him.
What if someone is willing to trade their whole draft for Luck (Ditka style)? Say somebody will trade their first 4 picks for him (if he's as desired as people claim, there may be a team willing to do that), at what point do the Colts say to themselves, "We can be the Steelers banking on a roster full of talent, or we can continue to be the Colts and bank on one guy."

If he's as good as advertised... you bank on one guy. Gunslingers like Manning, Brady, Brees and Rodgers have all won championships. If Luck has that potential, you take him.
It would be nice to have a balanced team but it's become a QB league. Jets have a great running game and great defense, still can't get over the hump because Sanchez sucks. Looks like the Ravens are starting to have similar problem. Running game and defense is great, but Flacco sucks.
Passing on Luck seems like a really bad idea unless you believe you have another really good QB lined up. Like when the Chargers traded Vick for Tomlinson and drafted Brees.
Yeah, if he's as good as Manning or Brady you might win 1 title without tons of talent on both sides of the ball.
Brady wins 3 titles because he has tons of talent. Team goes 11-5 without him.
Manning has 1 title because he hasn't had much of a D, and a lot of the time a running game. They are 0-7 without him.
If you bank on Luck and he actually is who we think he is, what happens if he gets Theismanned? I just don't think you can pass up 4 draft picks for one guy, unless he has proven he's Peyton Manning, and even then it's questionable.
