Defense played really well. Held their first team to 45 yards rushing I believe. Very good Friday night, Tommie Harris played well, Freeney destroyed Clifton several times. Painter played pretty well and seeing some on here say Wayne is in decline he was amazing. They all but beat the defending world champs with Painter at QB, I feel much more positive today than I did last week. I believe the D will be much better than most expect.

Means nothing. A blown GB coverage away from being down even more. It's preseason.

I understand and agree but the D really played well. I am not saying that we could win with Painter but I am saying when Peyton plays this team has a chance to be great. Also Collie and Mathis did not play.

By the way Peyton has been activated off the PUP

We actually match up pretty decently against GB, defensively. We can't stop the run, but they can't run much.

Castonzo got beat a good bit last night on speed rushes.

Donald Brown and Jerry Hughes are both on the bubble for getting cut.

Brown I understand.

Hughes though, didn't they just draft him? (or am I confusing him with another player)

1st rounder from last year. Brown was a 1st rounder from two years ago.

Not good to be a recent Colts 1st round pick.

WOW. Just took a look. Indy has had some really bad drafting over the last couple of years:

2005 Marlin Jackson CB Michigan
2006 Joseph Addai RB Louisiana State
2007 Anthony Gonzalez WR Ohio State
2008 — — No Pick — —
2009 Donald Brown RB Connecticut
2010 Jerry Hughes DE Texas Christian
2011 Anthony Castonzo OT Boston College

All have been pretty bad picks, including Addai and Gonzales, when you compare them to their picks from 1996-2003. You can see why they were so outstanding through the decade by looking at 96-03 picks. Only one bad pick and a bunch of All Pros:

1996 Marvin Harrison WR Syracuse
1997 Tarik Glenn OT California
1998 Peyton Manning QB Tennessee
1999 Edgerrin James RB Miami (FL)
2000 Rob Morris LB Brigham Young
2001 Reggie Wayne WR Miami (FL)
2002 Dwight Freeney DE Syracuse
2003 Dallas Clark TE Iowa

They have had awful drafts lately. The team is being fully held together by one man. Addai back, he will have an impact. But still.

You say Addai has been a bad pick? He was a very key component is the Super Bowl run, he is very good at what they ask him to do. Addai does not belong on that list

Compared to the list of Glenn through Dallas he was a big dropoff. But I understand what you're saying. He's been solid, but really dropped off after his first two years. If he was that well thought of, though, would they have drafted Donald Brown?

The 96 through 2003 list is historically good. Take Rob Morris out and WOW. Go back to 94 and they drafted Marshall Faulk.

When did Polian come on board? EDIT: Just looked it up. 1997. That dude has an incredible track record.

97 I believe.

Is Addai a great back in the traditional sense? No. But he catches the ball really well and is probably the best pass blocking back in the league. he fits in the system like no other back in the league would.

There are other backs in the league that would be better than Addai in that offense.

That said, many people act like Addai is a complete waste when he is actually pretty gosh darn good in the Colts system. I like him.

Bill Polian is amazing. A HOFer. He built the Bills into a 4-time Super Bowl team (unfortunately no wins), the critical in the Panthers amazing development as an expansion team, and the Colts...

Hall of Fame career.

Disagree. Addai's only real issue is that he's had some injuries. He isn't as productive as we'd like him to be, but that's on our terrible O-line. The offense does so much better with Addai on the field, even if he's not putting up big stats.

You should include Tony Ugoh on that list since we traded our 2008 1st round pick to draft him in 2007. Colts have been horrible in the first round. Castonzo doesn't belong on the list, yet.

Rumor: the Colts have signed Donnie Avery. I like it if true. Better than Gonzo who is likely out again this week.

Addai is not a top RB but he is the top RB for what the Colts demand of their backs. As soon as they drafted him, I was like that was a perfect pick "for the Colts".

To be honest, the Colts have probably the worse run blocking in the league. You put any RB in that system with those run blockers and it's going to be tough going.
