If Stamos gets through their lineup once, AJ may finish the game. One time through the lineup is 2-3 innings. AJ can go 6-7. The goal in having Stamos open is to have AJ in there for the high stress/high leverage situations late.Vols and FSU will be a great matchup. Will be interesting to see our approach against their ace. I think if we could squeeze out run or two against him and get to their pen and hope to score more late in the game. Causey has been our most consistent pitcher all year and his off speed pitches are very good. It would be really nice if stamos could get through their lineup one time which would allow Causey to probably get through their lineup at least twice before handing it over to the pen 8th and 9th. I think the team that takes chances and runs more will be at an advantage to win. I know this is easier said than done, but when Tibbs hits hopefully no one is on base. That guy can swing it with the best of them. The first game at Omaha is always the hardest and the most important. I think we can knock them off but don’t be surprised if this is a 1 run nail-biter type of game. I’m trusting Tony and our guys to get over that first game hump and pull off a huge win for the Vols baseball program. Just remember Vol land, we are the best team in the country so FSU has their hands full developing a game plan to attack our hitters. Oh yeah, the Vols can hit dongs at that park, just hope the wind is not blowing in Friday night.
My mindset has flipped now that we're in omaha. In Knoxville, I wanted to see the homers and offensive baseball. Now it's all about pitching and defense. Somehow we've got to get past Arnold and into the FSU pen. Maybe he'll be a bit nervous and we can get to him early. As for Stamos and AJ, I just hope to see Stamos get through the first inning unscathed. Not saying AJ is a lock to be on and give us the next 6-7, but I'm always on edge during that first Stamos inning. If Stamos gets through their lineup once, AJ may finish the game. Same. But as I and others have alluded, Stamos lately has been knocked out by a couple of home runs that would’ve been fly ball outs in Omaha. Those home runs marred some otherwise nice outings. If those HRs are outs tonight and he performs the same way otherwise, he’s good for a couple innings. My mindset has flipped now that we're in omaha. Both teams will face challenges with this park and the anticipated winds to be sure. I think FSU has the advantage tonight with Arnold, but if we get past him, the advantage flips to the Vols. Just crazy that teams built to hit home runs end their seasons in a place that makes hitting homers so hard. I'm old school so I enjoy what folks call small ball and great pitching. All this is why I think UNC and KY have an advantage in this setting. UNC's pitching will give them a huge advantage in omaha and UK's style of play won't need to change in this park. Gonna be interesting to see how each program handles the stage and conditions tonight.Same. We'll need to adjust tonight and string hits together to score. I just don't see us hitting the long ball as per usual with the wind. Both teams will face challenges with this park and the anticipated winds to be sure. Why in the world would they build a park that is so hard for teams to score in. Offensive is what 90% of the fans want to see. This playing field is bigger than most major league fields. If they know the wind is going to always be a factor then build a little smaller park. I don’t know why Omaha gets to host this event every year any way . Eighty percent of the participants are usually east of the Mississippi. We'll need to adjust tonight and string hits together to score. That’s a great Friday in my eyes. Hit it long and straight and then watch the Vols in the CWS. It doesn’t get any better!Central time here so not “officially” gameday quite yet. Gotta put the project management pants on at 6 AM but once lunch time hits we’ll be on the course striping a few fairways and then back home just in time for first pitch. Rest up fellas, we ride tomorrow.
It was built for a minor league team…….Creighton also uses it however they are building their own stadium now as Schwab is not too conducive for a college team to play in on a regular basisWhy in the world would they build a park that is so hard for teams to score in.
